I have my canon rebel t3i, I just received my intervelometer and i was planning on doing a time-lapse of the day sky and the stars at night. It is going to be my first test at a time-lapse and i have been reading up on it for awhile. I have final cut pro and i also just purchased CS6 Production suite. What is the best software to assemble to photos into a movie? Also I was wondering what would be the best settings and interval settings for doing time-lapse of the sky and stars? I want it to be smooth and beautiful
10 second intervals should do. Whatever sort of exposure makes a good picture, but make sure you set it for a small, high quality jpg image. For assembling, just take all the photos you take, drop them into the timeline and make sure you have the default duration for a still image set very very low. 1/15 of a second for 15fps (if you're exporting at 30 fps) I don't know how to do this in Final Cut Pro, but, it can't be too hard to figure out. Took me five minutes to find in Premiere. Also I guess you've already spent money, but Nikon cameras have built in time lapse settings and I believe a Canon firmware hack allows you to do the same thing (Magic Lantern, I believe?) That should cover it all.
Thanks! that helps a lot. Do know how to edit the default duration in premiere? because I was about to buy quicktime pro 7 for 30$ because i read its the best to assemble time-lapse

Typically 1-5 frames for a time lapse.
awesome thank you. Also on the intervelometer that i got it says I can set the delay, the long (exposure) and the interval and number of shots. What is the difference between delay and interval? and wouldn't the exposure setting almost be the same thing as well?
Delay is how long before the first shot is taken. Exposure is the length of each exposure.
Okay. I was not sure because I figured the exposure was determined by the shutter speed on the camera rather than have the intervelometer choose a time
Okay. I was not sure because I figured the exposure was determined by the shutter speed on the camera rather than have the intervelometer choose a time
Ya I dunno, that's what I would think too. Play around with it a bit to see if you can get it to work right.

I love how all I needed to do was make a connection between the thread title and a song.
This is not the place for the likes of Officer Brown
Doesn't time lapses shorten your cameras lifespan by quite a lot? Depending ofcourse on how many pictures you're planning to take. [editline]21st June 2012[/editline] I have no experience in star time lapse, but I have made this about a year ago Have a steady tripod that doesn't get affected by wind, and don't have your White Balance on auto (you can see in the last segment of my video how the balance starts to shift, it's due to WB being on auto)
