A United States military strike hit a vehicle carrying senior members of an al-Qaida-linked militant group in Somalia on Monday, killing at least two people including the group’s top explosives expert, a militant and a government intelligence official said.
A senior United States military official says there was a U.S. counterterrorism strike against a terrorist target in Somalia Monday but would give no further details. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because there was no authorization to discuss the strike publicly.
Something just isn't working in this sentence fragment.

Oh, it's translated to English.
"So we killed some people in your country that we think might be dangerous."
"Can you give us more details about how you infiltrated our country and bumped these guys off?"
"No, that's top secret."
In a near-perfect works this is generally enough incentive to tell the states to fuck off and don't come pissing around their borders again.

As if Somalia was ever going to do anything or could do anything involving the insides of their borders or the international waters their citizens are so well known for raiding.

Because it's totally okay for a foreign country to slip in, do the hit without any authorization from the local government no matter how dysfunctional they are and then walk back out of the country with tight lips and immunity to be chewed out for the hit.

Pretty sure the US and Somalia have agreements in place to do this sort of thing. I might be getting confused with Yemen or another country but I'm 90% sure its Somalia.

As if the US actually cares what a country thinks. They seem to do whatever they want which is pretty fucked up.
Another victory for diplomacy

The U.S and Somalian government have a very close militaristic relationship.

Good thing thats not what happened, huh
Oh, awesome, are we officially in the business of drone striking al-Shabaab now?

Yeah, as of, like, a decade ago. Where have you been?

Dood it's fucking Somalia. 20 years ago it wasn't really even a country. It was just a bunch of warlords and insurgent groups fighting for control until the early 2000's. It's only recently fully established a true and through federal government, but it's still having issues with insurgents which it can't really handle on it's own. They've had to call in help from Ethiopia in the past for things like this, and Al-Shabaab has been seizing large chunks of land up until 2012. The US blowing up a few Al-Shabaab figureheads would be a godsend to them, and even if they didn't OK it prior to the strike, they would have OK'd it afterwards.
Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish.
And to those of you complaining about Teh Outraeg of going into the border of a virtual non-state that can't even enforce its' own, eliminating known terrorists, and then slipping out.... You missed the bus to complain with the Barbary Wars featuring US forces going onto foreign soil with and without the authorization of the local Dey in order to deal with Pirates, Islamists, and above all Islamist Pirates.
By that logic we would need to stop pursuing Somali Pirates that have taken a tanker hostage because they got insider what would be Somalia's maritime border.]
If anything, this would be a massive help to the legitimate Somalian Government because it's a step towards it not being a misnomer.

I haven't paid much attention to drone activity in Somalia lately. I didn't know we were specifically in the business of trying to dismantle that organization, too.

Yeah, more or less. Al-Shabaab's basically another wannabe Al-Qaeda, and it wasn't long after it got formed that it started targeting us and our allies and we returned the favor.
TBH, organizations like Al-Shab are almost a dime a dozen anymore; the main thing that distinguishes Al-Shab is how successful and large it's been.

Yes, we are trying to dismantle the subdivision of Al-Qaeda that is contesting the legitimate government trying to pick up the pieces of Somalia and turn it back into a functioning country. Al-Shabaab is the group that kills soldiers and civilians alike, makes no distinction between foreigners and natives, African or non-African. They kill their own people, they kill UN peacekeepers, they're involved in damn near every facet of organized crime in northeastern Africa and they've been on the shit list pretty much since they started existing a decade ago.
