You can support this game here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival
The music is great, the characters are adorable, the world is very vibrant and platform-esque as well. It's obviously a demo stage, but the overall concept is on point for what many fans want from a Banjo game. I'm looking forward to this.

This is also very important- Grant Kirkhope talking about the project before it even ran, and he's already very happy on twitter.
That roll move is just perfect
Hoping the level design gets spiced up a bit, but that just seems like a demo level
the bat makes kind of creepy ass sounds though, like is he laughing or.
Not a fan of how the camera's height pans up and down when the characters jump - looks like it would hamper the ability to properly aim jumps and maneuver around
Otherwise the atmosphere and design looks brilliant
It only took them less than 3 months of building the game in Unity to get this far. I think this will turn out to be a good game

Well, I mean to be fair, Rare's standards for programming and game design were extremely high. You had to be really goddamn good to get a job. These guys are legit proven and highly experienced developers, it just shows you what is possible when you have that much experience and talent.
I don't think I have been more confident on a kickstarter game thus far for being at least at a bare minimum decent. I wasn't even impressed or excited for mighty number 9.
Shit looks pretty great, cant wait to see the real levels, I know this is just a concept demo level that took a few months only, but god damn I cannot wait to see the shit they come up with for the themed levels. Plus, already hit the $1,000,000 mark on Kickstarter in a god damn few hours.
Even if this game is somehow shit we still have David Wise and Grant Kirkhope music.
This is for a challenge or minigame it seems.
World theme. Its fucking Banjo Kazooie so hard(its great)
Even if this game is somehow shit we still have David Wise and Grant Kirkhope music.

best of both rare worlds in terms of music, you get the intricate and atmospheric music of David Wise, and you get the cartoony and nostalgic style of Grant Kirkhope.
Now I hope we get Graeme Norgate the guy who worked on the "alternate" rare projects: Goldeneye, Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, and then went on to do the amazing music for Timesplitters series.
He's involved with big AAA titles now though, so I think he's busy. Kind of sucks, I hope he comes back to do something more simple and heartfelt.
Oh yeah and I hope we get Robin Beanland, who also worked on various titles but composed the insanely godlike Conker's Bad Fur Day theme.
Too much bloom.
I can see so much of Banjo in this
The talon trot noise when the bat is on the iguana
the kazooie wing flap when he double jumps
Kirkhope with the fucking music as expected
The jump noise
Picking up "Play" buttons instead of notes
even the damn noise the play buttons make
I'm so happy
those coins aren't finalized according to the kickstarter page so they could end up being anything else
there's something kind of bitterseet about this. It's so clearly supposed to be a Banjo Kazooie game.
The name Yooka-Laylee, although cheerful in it's own right cannot be said without thinking of the collassal "fuck you" to current Rare, the holder's of the Banjo rights, Microsoft, and the like of big companies that wouldn't finance a game like this anymore.
David Wise is so fucking good. He somehow made this god damn masterpiece in a fucking shitty licensed LJN nes game. Seriously, listen to how fucking god tier this is and its part of a horrible game. Guy just makes good music whenever. More excited for his shit than Grants(mostly because I know what to expect from Grant) I mean god damn were talking about the DKC soundtrack guy.
watch a new banjo get announced at E3 or next year because microsoft execs and shareholders are mad that people actually wanted a banjo game
A Banjo-Kazooie game has been rumored to be in development for a while now. Whatever it is that Rare has been working on, Playtonic Games has apparently seen it and approves.
There's also all the Battletoads stuff... who knows.
Wow the kickstarter has so much money already..

Gamers don't want it huh?

It's like they knew what the fuck they were doing was totally wrong. Like, this would be perfect for a parody game.
This is basically Banjo-Kazooie, the character sound and music. Level design. Its amazing
I wouldn't be surprised if, with the success of this, Microsoft gave Banjo-Kazooie rights over to Playtonic.
Hell, even Grant Kirkhope mentioned that he hopes that some ex-Rareware employees would get together and make Banjo-Threeie.
It's like they knew what the fuck they were doing was totally wrong. Like, this would be perfect for a parody game.
I'm pretty sure the writers for N&B actually did. The plot is that a previously uninvolved game creator swoops in on the world and changes everything to work with his building gimmick. You can find the guy in the game and ask for the old mechanics back, but he refuses on the basis that if you had those nobody would bother with his building stuff.
The actual description for buoy building parts was "Without them, vehicle will sink like this game at retail."

They actually did, wish I saved the screencap, but some rare employee who was still working their at the time and on those games made a thread talking about it(timestamped and some official shit)
Basically heres the just of it.
B&K 3 was in the making, and the guy in the thread said it was actually incredible, big open worlds(you can see this left over in NB) super faithful to the originals, just gorgeous with new great things like physics, dynamic lighting, high framerate, the works. Said they put together some super great demo for microsoft execs, he went into great detail about it but I forget it word for word, it sounded exactly what any BK fan wanted to hear though.
Anyways the microsoft people apparently saw it and the guy said they were just silent, one even was looking at his phone near the end not even paying attention to the demo. They said "Yeah, were thinking of going into a different direction, were just not so sure people want games like this anymore"
Guy said he was soulcrushed.
Anyways, at the same time, a car game where you got to build your own cars was also in development, for Microsoft.
The brought them both together and literally just threw banjos shit in their so they would have an established IP to sell this new IP under.
You can take it with a grain of salt since it was a 4chan thread, but it seems to add up.
What we got was N&Bs. The devs were VERY self-aware of what was going on.

that "official shit" was easily obtained merch though, like a t-shirt that said Rare on it

Wasnt their a rare employee badge as well though. Of course that could be faked anyways. Just take it with a grain of salt like I said, but it really does seem to add up. Regardless, its pretty much how I envision whatever happened.

i can't tell if that's the most hilarious thing or the most soulcrushing thing ever

Uh if microsoft discovers that Banjo kazooie could make them money, they wouldn't just give them up. We could maybe see a collab but even that seems unlikely since Rare still technically exists. Maybe I'm just a pessimist though.

Agreed, Wise is such a legendary composer, I can't wait to see what more he brings to the table.
I'd like it a lot more if the camera was zoomed out a bit more.

The camera zoom is relative to your speed it looks like.
