Hello all! I was up in Montana visiting relatives and I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to snag some lightning pictures! I liked this one the most. I used a Nikon D40, no special lenses, just a raised ISO. Enjoy!
There was a lightning storm where I live not so long back, and I got a few picture's too. Yours are much better than mine turned out though, especially the third one, its great
that last one is awesome lightning is hard as shit to take pictures of :/
Love doing lightning shots, they're fun to do. And how people think you have crazy reflexes.
Wow.... That was awesome .... It blew my mind... Doe sit take the shot when you press the button or do you have it take when it sees movement... Like what the fuck is the technique to take lightning pictures... Or do you have it on rapid shot? and it takes multiple pictures?
Taking pictures of lightning is really pure luck, and long exposures. When I do it i use bulb mode, and shoot 100+ second exposures or until i think i catch lightning. Pure luck comes in in the way after taking 30 photos only 5 actually have lightning in it. Basically -Tripod -Long exposures at low iso -Step down so you can have longer shots without having too bright pictures DSC_0026 by Gabe Gatmaitan, on Flickr This for example, I took with a 115 second exposure at f/22
30:5 seems like way too much. try 400:1
Well i had pure luck that night, either that or since those 30 shots equated to a total of the sensor on for 1 hour. Got heat discoloration near the end, during a crazy 500 second exposure.
