Dammit stop with all the Kickstarters already, I don't want to end up with debt this early in my life. :suicide: [editline]18th October 2013[/editline] With that said, can't wait to see what comes out of this :buddy:
Thats sick, the myst games were awesome
They should add support for Linux, I mean the OS is pretty much like myst's gameplay, puzzles to do basic functions.
omg omg omg this is so good i love the myst and riven games
Oooh, gotta let my Dad know about this! When I was a kid "helping" my dad play Myst was what got me into gaming. Granted I was too young and stupid to figure any of the stuff out so I kinda just watched and occasionally chimed in with a solution that never worked. :v:

Your ability to think (intelligence, awareness, etc.) actually matters in those games and it takes a serious amount of thought and time to get through the puzzles in the games. And you're often rewarded with shit like this: (It feels even better when it happens ingame after spending nearly a week solving everything) It isn't for everyone though. People that are into nonstop action would find this boring as hell.
it is the kind of game where you're going to probably need a notebook to solve the puzzles
Holy shite, this looks lovely. I loved Myst so much as a kid.
Myst is my childhood. I have such an emotional attachment to them. There is nothing like them in the world, nothing matches the feeling of Myst. I was a child when my uncle bought Myst for my dad for his fancy new computer, 8 megabytes of ram, 1 gigabyte HD, CD-ROM drive, all the bells and whistles. I was absolutely hooked from the first time I played it. Went on to buy each game on release. It no doubt helped shape the way I think in a lot of ways. It is a little bittersweet that it isn't a new game in the franchise, but a new start is what they need. I'm pretty optimistic about it. Kickstarter is perfect for them. And some thread music, Robyn Miller's original Myst soundtrack remastered for the 20th anniversary.
YES!
Yes please. I couldn't tell you how many hours ive played myst and riven with my father when I was young. I literally grew up with these games I just watched the video. Hnnnnnngg the Cyan jingle
Wow, the video is full of shit I never thought I'd see/hear again.
Holy fuck, I am legitimately shocked that Cyan still hasn't gone under yet. Rand looks so old now too :C
I've been biting my nails every month on URU's cavcon meter hoping the day it reaches 5. The dev team has been a skeletal crew for a while, (there's a story from pre to post URU and post post URU). I knew that they were going to have a kickstarter project when Rand Miller hinted at this on a myst podcast. What I expected was some form of mobile game which they have been focusing on up till now, so unreal 4 tech on the PC/mac is a surprise. (unreal for the possible phone/linux stretch goal). There's something else that shocked me today that I do not want to Jinx. (edit: it's related to this game which is in the worked)
Cyan is 30? Holy shit. I'm pitching money.
What I'm feeling off about this campaign is it's only 30 days old, though the internet moves info fast. My gut tells be long fans who don't play video games like they used to would find out at a later date then fans of other games. That said, it needs the word spread as much as possible. Edit: fun fact, scroll down on the kickstarter site and notice the concept art for the lady. The writing is kinda hard to see right, you can click on the image for a larger view, [sp]the larger view has censor bars. such a great tease[/sp]
What I'm feeling off about this campaign is it's only 30 days old
Where are you getting that? The funding period started today and they've already raised a quarter million dollars.
Where are you getting that? The funding period started today and they've already raised a quarter million dollars.
some campaigns go for 60 days. I agree quarter million is great, just feel there are people out there who would donate but would reach them after 30 days. Besides noting star citizen extended it's beginning campaign to match the end of the kickstarter deadline and with that went 7 million from a "what if we got" 6 million stretch goal.
I used to draw complex diagrams on sheet of paper to help me solve puzzles in Myst but when I solved them I felt like the smartest person in the world.
For the people who haven't ever heard of Myst, the games can be tough as hell to get through. Your ability to think (intelligence, awareness, etc.) actually matters in those games and it takes a serious amount of thought and time to get through the puzzles in the games. Most of the time you WILL have to keep a journal or booklet or something to write notes in because the world is so detailed and the puzzles are so fucking complicated. (i'm not even joking Myst 4 took me MONTHS to get through without looking at a walkthrough which would completely destroy the point of even playing the game i'll add) And you're often rewarded with shit like this: (It feels even better when it happens ingame after spending nearly a week solving everything) It isn't for everyone though. People that are in to nonstop action would find this boring as hell.
I think Myst 3 took me like a week, although I had to cheat on a part of the last room I think I wanna play through the myst games again, too bad I remember all the solutions for all the first three games, and some of the fourth one
The Kickstarter's currently at $433k after 3 days; going smoothly I'd say.
