• TV advertisements, or works of art?

Commercials. How we despise them. The vast majority of them are borderline retarded (See: HEAD ON! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD!), intensely irritating (Same as before), and take up our precious time when watching our favorite shows. They're little more than a big annoyance. However, you occasionally come across a commercial that gives you pause, because it carries a message that has far more to do with life or beauty than the product it is promoting. Here are two examples: The first is the world-famous Sony Bravia commercial (most likely aired during a Super Bowl way back when) The second is a personal favorite: The Lexus 'Moments' commercial. I say a work of art.
The sony one was cool, but it dragged on a little too much.
that bravia commercial, while incredible, would have been better with the knife's version of heartbeats
I say not. It's only created for the single purpose of promoting a product and in the end of the line creating $$$. Yes advertising "uses" art but it shouldn't be confused with "being" art. edit: That commercial has art in it, but the video itself is just an advertisement that USES the art.

I see the advertisements as very artistic, though I have no interest whatsoever in Sony OR Lexus.
Some are considered Art, while others are just plain stupid.
Even if they do look artistic, the amount of times you end up seeing them ruins it anyway.
The only difference between an artist and a craftsman is intent.

That was the joke.
You do realize the point of that commercial was to give you a headache, then you buy it to cure the headache? That was the joke.
It did not have the desired effect at all. It merely disgusted me and ruined my evening the first time I was forced to sit through it.
The only difference between an artist and a craftsman is intent.
The intention usually being acting like a pretentious douchebag.
My personal favorite: 'I Can't Believe It's Not Butter' :buttertroll:
Companies use artistic ways in advertisements to try make people remember it on TV and consider buying that product; I reckon it works.
Arch, you sure are making alot of threads. But I just think they are ads.
The intention usually being acting like a pretentious douchebag.
Sometimes. It depends.
But sometimes there's that funny ass commercial.
Arch, you sure are making alot of threads. But I just think they are ads.
Sorry, uber. My mind's working overtime, and full of ideas I'd like to share. I hope none of those threads seemed like a waste of time.
Saw that coming as soon as it started.
I know, right? Isn't it the best commercial? So artistic...
Now this is a work of art.
Points for cute dogs. It turns out that Lexus makes really good commercials. Since their target market is the richer, more educated adult male, they try to appeal to people intellectually as well as aesthetically.
