I currently own a curling bar, and that's what I've been using to do my 5X5's. I understand that it's a curling bar, but hey, it's all I got. Does a standard bar make a significant difference? Am I cheating my body?
Thanks.
It's almost always better to use a curl bar. While there is obviously benefits to using either, The symmetrical bends in the bar allows you to vary your wrist and hand positions which helps in taking stress off your wrists, a problem that is often posed while curling with a standard bar.
Curling bars are for curling. Your post makes it sound like you bench and deadlift with a curling bar? I wouldn't do it.
You can also do up-right rows with a curling bar that's what i use mine for sometimes. I wouldn't do it either
Many people choose to do e-z bar for curling mainly because it puts less stress on the wrists, but the downside is that your activating the brachialis during the curl which is not necessarily a bad thing. I just feel that if you want to actually focus on your biceps, you would need to use a straight for curling. Yes it may not feel good on your wrists (do a lighter weight), but your palms are kept straight which allows your bicep to perform its natural function of curling. This would lead to more direct bicep gains.

I often OH press with an ez bar cause a straight bar sometimes makes my wrists hurt in the beginning of a rep.

Sounds a bit odd.. I used to have trouble with bent-over rows as well. Then I actually tried to tighten my grip (just grab the bar with higher strength), and I suddenly went up like 15 pounds. So, try to grab the bar as tightly as possible (without it hurting your ofc). I hope that helps.
