Seriously now, how do new drivers do it? I'm shelling out £5,800 a year on car insurance currently. Thats £500 per month as i pay monthly with some crap 30% APR. I'm on an £18k salary which is excellent for my age of 18, but i'm really struggling to keep up the premiums now. How do people do it seriously? If i didn't have to pay all this money i would be a rich man. I've looked in to everything. Even insurers that stick trackers in your car to monitor which times you drive, but they come up more expensive than my tescos insurance. I have pass plus and all that rubbish. No accidents. The only thing that seems to be going against me is that im an 18 Male with only 4 months driving experience. It's really depressing Edit: I'm actually considering just getting rid of it altogether. The cost is just obscene. Oh and it's a Ford Focus 1.6 by the way.
Rampageturkes dad can help you with that car
Hahahahah sorry but 5800 quid? you are a fucking mug mate. did you even try all the price comparison sites? do you live in the ghetto? [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] sell that car, buy something obscure that doesn't get crashed by kids.
Tried all the price comparison sites and even phoned multiple insurers directly. I live in Birmingham
Legal fronting?
Why do you need a car anyway that much anyway?
[QUOTE=Masala Chai;28055052]Why do you need a car anyway that much anyway?[/QUOTE] Because walking is boring anyway and cars are cool anyway but anyway, there might be cheaper insurance depending what car you got. It's like that in Norway at least
I'm going to phone my insurers tomorrow. Somehow it seems that having a named driver with experience such as a parent on your plan, you get a reduced premium. Sort of makes sense but then again doesen't. Will give them a ring tomorrow and be like... Hey... I'm with you at the moment, can i add my dad as a named driver and get 1 grand cheaper. Cheers!

My car is insured on my dad so it's cheap as hell :v: also I don't live in the UK so just as long as the car is insured and the driver is allowed to use the car by the person who the insurance is registered to it's all good
£5,800 a year to insure a Ford Focus? Jesus that's brutal, in Canada I could insure a 2011 Nissan GTR for less than half that. What the hell is driving your prices up so high?
I know how you feel mate. I'm almost at the stage where i need to take my tests and i've been trying out insurance sites to see what kind of price i can expect. Got something like £5400 as the cheapest for a year. And being a side driver it was something like £3000. I'm 19 and a student, how the fuck am i supposed to pay that?
Mother of christ UK insurance is ridiculous £5800 a year for a fucking focus!? I had a drift/drag prepped S14 when I was 17 and I payed $375 every 6 months. My brother has a '95 mustang GT that's not even close to stock and he pays $550 every 6 moths for full coverage. I don't know how insurance in the UK works but can you "sell" the car to your parents and have the title transferred into there name and get it insured under them with you as a side driver?

Insurer's know there's a massive amount of peer pressure to drive at a young age and set their prices accordingly.
I phoned tesco and they said adding my dad as a named driver will take £4 off my annual quote. No thanks I then phoned Admiral for a quote for me as the main driver with my dad as a named, £4270 Also phoned Adrian Flux, they refused to quote me haha. I'm going to do loads more digging around, but the Admiral quote is looking good at the moment, it's certainally better than my current insurance

That is still absolutely insane. when I was teaching my girlfriend to drive, she was 19 I was 22. it was 650 quid with her as the main driver and me as a second on a 1.9d 306. this has to be something to do with your post code, that is the only explanation. 2000 i could believe but still over 4k? it's just not worth it, get a scooter. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] or like i said, sell the car and get something that doesn't get crashed by kids. volvo 440? there's a 1.6 version that i seem to remember one of my friends insuring when we were 18 and it cost her 450 quid a year. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] oh my lord you aren't kidding. new drivers today - you are fucked. Tom, we've found 51 quotes from £2956.61 This quote is based on a VOLVO 440 1596cc, Third Party, Fire & Theft cover, £500 Voluntary Excess and No Claims Not Protected for Tom Smith (Main Driver) this is for an 18 year old, no NCB. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Tom, we've found 44 quotes from £2326.69 This quote is based on a TOYOTA STARLET 999cc, Third Party, Fire & Theft cover, £500 Voluntary Excess and No Claims Not Protected for Tom Smith (Main Driver) Better. tidy little cars are starlets, maybe something to think about ;)

[img]http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/9849/insurancequote.png[/img] Are they actually having a laugh. Oh this is for my 1.6 focus still by the way.
what the fuck are they playing at?
Got a quote of £3,408 for my focus from Admiral car insurance. Thats me as the main, mom and dad as named drivers. So far nobody else can beat that or even come close. I'm now going to phone tesco to see if they will charge me a leaving fee of some sort to stop mid term. This is going to be interesting
Hmm, it's still a little high, but it's better then any of the quotes i've gotten. That's for a crappy clio.
I pay $600 every 6 months for my insurance. 18yr male no accidents that they know about with a 1995 mustang gt
I pay around 600,- a month and that's about $100 :v: if the car was registered on me it'd be twice as much
I'm looking into starting driving recently. My friend is willing to let me use his car and teach me so that's going to save me a fuckton of money as provisional insurance is cheap as shit. Should cost me about £250 total to get qualified. Then I started looking for real insurance quotes. £6000 per year cheapest? The highest ones were like £35k. What the fuck is this shit, I live in a nice area. Doesn't even include fire and theft lol.

Holy fuck!!! I paid £1700 full comp for a 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa when I was 17, that was nearly 3 years ago... Times have changed but there's not a lot you can do. Try companies which offer black box type recorders, or daytime only policies, limitied mileage... It's gonna be cheaper but really restricts your driving. If I were you I'd spend something like £1000 on a cheap car and just insure it third pard, if anything ever happens to it then you've not lost a major amount of cash... Tell the insurers that it's garaged with a cat 1 alarm and do your best not to crash because your policy will be void after those lies. It's the only way to get the prices down but if you do crash you'll be caught out.
I'm going to try and go with a £3,350 quote from elephant. I don't want to be paying 30% APR on that.... Time to go to mom! Hey mom, can i borrow 3 grand for a year. Oh i see it now.
HOLY SHIT BALLS Why is insurance so damn expensive over there? Right now I pay $100 a year for me on my moms insurance with my Impreza.
[QUOTE=FordLord;28111630]HOLY SHIT BALLS Why is insurance so damn expensive over there? Right now I pay $100 a year for me on my moms insurance with my Impreza.[/QUOTE] Because we have an infection of people called chavs who like to crash a lot.
