Here's Apple's full statement. But as you read it, bear in mind how crazy 2014 is shaping up to be. The most powerful opponents of the NSA are not the American people. (Where are the protests and demonstrations against the greatest domestic spying threat, ever?) They are tech companies with high-priced lawyers:
Apple has never worked with the NSA to create a backdoor in any of our products, including iPhone. Additionally, we have been unaware of this alleged NSA program targeting our products. We care deeply about our customers’ privacy and security. Our team is continuously working to make our products even more secure, and we make it easy for customers to keep their software up to date with the latest advancements. Whenever we hear about attempts to undermine Apple’s industry-leading security, we thoroughly investigate and take appropriate steps to protect our customers. We will continue to use our resources to stay ahead of malicious hackers and defend our customers from security attacks, regardless of who’s behind them.

At this point it seems like it's going to happen regardless of what they do. Sounds to me like they just want to sound like the good guy.
At least they're trying.
they say theyre trying.
something about trying?
PR damage control
Sounds like BS to me. How could NSA implant malicious software into iOS without apple? Isn't that shit very closed down?
The NSA has finally pissed off someone with a larger wallet than them.
"Do...or do not. There is no try."

Wait, so the jailbreak community is better at hacking than the NSA? I somehow am not so sure.
goddamnit automerge...
If only it was possible to verify that by inspecting the code.

You're implying they hack devices, put malicious software on them and no one notices?

What's the point of even putting out a message like this if it's blatantly obvious that nothing is going to change? Are there seriously people who will believe it?
If the NSA is actually intercepting certain computers and can just sit there and fiddle with them all they want, I'm not sure what all they can do.

I'm explicitly stating that Apple's shit being ultra-locked-down is partially marketing fluff, because at the end of the day the iPhone is a computer and computers do exactly what humans tell them to do, including execute exploits that take advantage of vulnerabilities in their code.
The NSA has the ability (according to recent leaks) to exploit basically any major piece of hardware and software, through software and hardware means. They have hired some of the smartest people on the planet, their entire job is doing this on anything that can yield useful information, and they have almost unlimited resources.
Apple might be able to harden their devices now that they're publicly aware that the NSA is hostile to their products, but I don't think for a minute that they were hard at work behind the scenes facilitating this attack vector for the NSA. Those guys don't need Apple to help them.

Maybe you and I dont buy it, but I'm almost positive that somebody out there believes everything they hear or read. There's some damn stupid people out there.
i think apple is gonna try and do something about it

Is there any actual software or hardware mods done by NSA shown on the internet? If they indeed hacked so many devices there surely must be such stuff floating around now that it's revealed right? It's weird how no one noticed any NSA mods before the leaked info. NSA couldn't have possibly hired every tech whiz? Either there aren't all that many modded devices or everyone's stupid and NSA has some super-smart techies.
Oh shit, what if one of the backdoors is the fingerprint scanner thing on the new iPhone going into some database.
Fucking calling it
:tinfoil:

:tinfoil:
They take your fingerprints over here when you renew your passport. I don't see how someone having your fingerprint data matters.

it never leaves police records and you can be identified by your finger prints even if your face has changed in some way or another.

Uhh
they should already have your fingerprints

I have plenty friends who have never been printed.
I am one of them. I know Canadian children get their fingerprints done in grade-school, but I was actually sick that day and have no fingerprints on record as of today (unless I have been printed without my knowledge)

Is that supposed to be bad?
Is that supposed to be bad?
yes considering that it practically automatically claims you to be a criminal if it was done during childhood and no crime was ever committed during then.

Everyone who ever took a flight to or throught the US post 9/11 gave his prints to them.

Or apple are just shit at writing software? Every single version of iOS has major exploits that allow people to root them..
German passports have biometric data, the company that provides the tech is a daughter of a US company.
I was kind of expecting someone like IBM to say this because you DON'T fuck with IBM's products and get away with it.
