On Sunday night, police officers responded to an anonymous call claiming there was an active shooter at Clark’s Melrose home. Melrose Police say they received a computer-generated phone call stating there were “shots fired” at the home. Clark was home with her husband and two children at the time and officers quickly determined that there was no danger.

“I’m relieved that no one was hurt, but the sad reality is, these hoaxes known as “swatting” are a danger to victims, first responders, and our emergency preparedness,” Clark said. “This is the exact reason that I introduced the Interstate Swatting Hoax Act – I want perpetrators to know that there are legal repercussions to their actions, and I’m committed to giving law enforcement the tools to deter these dangerous crimes.” Nationwide, the FBI estimates there are 400 swatting incidents every year.
1. That sucks. 2. Good on the Government wanting to make this bullshit a federal crime. Something we can all get behind.
Just more fuel to make swatting a federal crime, don't know what the swatter was intending to do.
great job, to the moron who did this to the judge there just going to past it faster now
well does seriously nothing happen to the idiots who call this shit in
well does seriously nothing happen to the idiots who call this shit in
They leave 'hints' anonymously. It's these kinds of people that ruin privacy for everyone.
I wonder if she did it herself to garner support for the bill. Obviously I agree with the bill but I wouldn't put it past a politician
I wonder if she did it herself to garner support for the bill. Obviously I agree with the bill but I wouldn't put it past a politician
Or we cannot be conspiracy theorists and realize that the kind of people who SWAT are stupid enough to do this kind of thing.
I wonder if she did it herself to garner support for the bill. Obviously I agree with the bill but I wouldn't put it past a politician
Haha seriously I doubt she'd put herself, her family and her career in danger like that just to push through a bill that's probably reasonably well supported anyway.
Haha seriously I doubt she'd put herself, her family and her career in danger like that just to push through a bill that's probably reasonably well supported anyway.
Hi, have you met our politicians?
Conspiracy theorists it is, then!
Conspiracy theorists it is, then!
I'm not saying she did it to herself. I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me.
I'm not saying she did it to herself. I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me.
Yea, I would be pretty fucking surprised if she put her family and career in extreme danger for a piece of legislation which would be easy to pass into law.
Hi, have you met our politicians?
Fuckin Lizard people swatters messing with my streams. Bet the Illuminati was the one that ordered those thousands of pizzas for me that one time too.
Just more fuel to make swatting a federal crime, don't know what the swatter was intending to do.
The person could be supporting this bill, in a twisted kind of way, he probably helped it.
Maybe a swatter decided to have a last round of spiteful fun
well does seriously nothing happen to the idiots who call this shit in
Well, no. They kinda can't, either. You buy a burner phone with cash at some supermarket, and then at a much later date you make a call with it to inform the police of a threat and then immediately destroy the phone. You can't really catch them, it's not possible.
The bill is good, but I still disagree that it should be a federal law https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-QkCUPMetwXemFNYlZvOW4zaVk/view

People seem to not realize how bad being a felon is. Your life is essentially over immediately.
Yeah, I don't really see why doing what most people would consider to be a prank on someone would result in federal crime status. A squad of heavily armed military police with assault rifles breaking down their door. I'd say this is definitely warranting this level of response. And that's not even counting the cost to the county or taxpayers. You do not fuck around with the police, why don't people get that?
The bill is good, but I still disagree that it should be a federal law https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-QkCUPMetwXemFNYlZvOW4zaVk/view
Because you're wasting the resources of S.W.A.T., essentially the most major step in Police action BEFORE the National Guard is called up. That's why they want to make it an offense, because after 400 cases, I'm sure SWAT must be pretty pissed to have their boys gear up and drive out in bulletproof vehicles that cost ALOT of money, just to end up at some kid's house and learn that it was all a prank by some stooge with a small penis on the internet. So yeah, it's a Federal offense for a reason, precious resources and time of an important group are being wasted, and god help us if a Swatting incident occurs and then a real serious event, like a Bank Robbery with assault rifles (North Hollywood incident) were to occur at the same time. Then it would be resources, time, and precious lives on the line.

If i go and kill your dog is that a prank? just a prank bro...

It's not like dogs can bite through full ballistic body armor. I guess it's a tension and efficiency thing, but you can be damn well sure I'd be filing every suit I could if they shot my dog.

People seem to not realize how bad being a felon is. Your life is essentially over immediately.
It's not a prank, I have no clue why you would ever consider it that. It not only endangers people who are in the home but also the police responding. If you are so callous as to do this to someone then I really don't care if your labeled a felon or not.
It isn't already a crime?
It isn't already a crime?
Technically yes, but you can't enforce that on anonymous tips. This would aid in enforcing laws that already exist.
Yeah, I don't really see why doing what most people would consider to be a prank on someone would result in federal crime status. People seem to not realize how bad being a felon is. Your life is essentially over immediately.
Because it can get people killed. If someone says "There's a man here and he's shooting everybody!", a SWAT Team will show up prepared for someone to attack them. If they enter the house thinking "This guy's gonna kill me", then they're gonna be more likely to shoot if things don't play out perfectly. Plus, it's also a huge waste of time and resources. All this combined with being as easy as ordering a pizza means there needs to be a heavy deterrant. Calling it a prank is ridiculous unless you're some dipshit like RomanAtwood who thinks Pranks are meant to be harmful, sexist, or terrifying, and accept the fact that it may result in casualties. Because it's a prank bro.

SWAT Teams don't literally encase themselves in body armor. Even the most heavily armored will have their arms exposed, legs exposed, groin exposed (from the bottom), neck and face exposed, almost every part of the body besides the chest and your head doesn't have any type of protection.

So it is.
