A woman in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced this week to 150 lashes and eight months in jail for driving and striking police officers who arrested her, news websites in the kingdom have reported.
Women in the conservative country are prohibited from driving.
It appeared that the particularly harsh sentence was handed down because of the charges of resisting arrest and attacking police officers, according to various reports.
There has been no official confirmation of the verdict and the woman's name has not been published.
Pathetic.
this is a country where liberation was needed. iraq didnt need it. this place does.
I somehow don't believe that she actually attacked officers. Lashes are given for offenses such as driving, I doubt that she'd have the same kind of penalty for something as severe as attacking police officers and resisting arrest.

Yeah because what a fucked up country needs is a reason to rally against another, larger one.

Not defending the invasion, but Iraq was waaaaay more fucked up than Saudi Arabia from a civil rights perspective.

Really?

I'd not put it past saudi arabia to jail a woman for no reason other than she exists.
I get really angry whenever I'm reminded that these kind of countries still exist. The only reason the rest of the world even tolerates them is because they have so much god damn oil.

If that was the case we wouldn't have North Korea :v:
Why does nobody do anything about these kinds of things?

That and it seems all the liberation of Iraq did was further destabilize it.
Why does nobody do anything about these kinds of things?
Because feminists are too busy complaining about sexual portrayals of women in video games.

haha sick feminists owned yet again
You didn't even get close to that many lashes for deserting or disobeying protocol in Starship Troopers
You could desert and get a teammate killed and still not close to that many lashes
You could desert, get your teammate killed accidentally, and then punch your commanding officer and shit on his desk and not even break 30
striking police officers who arrested her
That is probably what resulted in the harsh punishment.
What a joke of a country.
Wow that's NOT acceptable ... these people that lashed her better pray they don't show their face in Iceland

Or what? I'm sure the people that can actually use a lash, against a woman, would do far greater/worse damage than you could to them.

Leave it to internet forum user impact1986 to make a post about videogames in a thread about terrible human rights violations. Nice priorities and a totally unbiased/informed perspective on those GOSH DARN feminists you've got there!
Regardless what you think of the laws, it's not okay to assault a police officer. They dont make the laws, they just enforce them.
Do what? What can anyone do about this? Nothing, nothing at all.
Issue sanctions
Issue sanctions
Sanctions against our most Important allies in the international struggle for freedom?

Yeah, if they really cared, they'd be invading Saudi Arabia!
I get really angry whenever I'm reminded that these kind of countries still exist. The only reason the rest of the world even tolerates them is because they have so much god damn oil.
or maybe because they are one of the few middle eastern countries that will actually cooperate with the west and has been a reliable ally since 1944ish
years before the discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia in the first place...
I mean the west doesn't have many friends in that area, let alone stable friends so we tolerate the social problems in exchange for the leverage they have with the middle east

I don't know man, I'd be pretty fucking pissed aswell if I were arrested because of my gender.

yeah, couldn't possibly be because saudi arabia is an incredibly conservative rich as fuck oil kingdom with heavy support from the USA, it's probably actually because some feminists complain about my precious video games
