Gawddamn.
There's a pretty interesting article about the Swedish street racing scene, in Speedhunters.
I think drag racing is meant for pushing cars to the limits, not drivers. There's not a lot of skill involved.
WRC for example is more interesting. Formula One too.

TL;DR - Drag races suck.

So why the fuss about it being so prestigious? Because it's not on a specially built drag strip?

lmao stating BS like this like it's fact
have you ever even done drag? What if people want to see what it's like when cars are pushed to their limits? Drag racing is fun as hell.

Manual Shifting
EDIT: Oh yeah, I live like 3 km away from where these events happen. Annoying as fuck when they block the road and won't let you pass...
this is made exponentially more bonkers by the fact they're racing on city roads with no burnout box or anything
jesus christ no thank you

I take it they block the freeway on 1am mondays, right? Otherwise yeah, it'd be a major pain in the ass. :P

It's just dumb and obnoxious in general IMO
There are illegal "street"racers around where I currently live, as well, but at least they keep to abandoned military airstrips and the like out in the forest where they don't bother anyone and they only risk hurting themselves

Otherwise? It's still piss annoying for the motorists who travel at 1am on Mondays.
Fuck these lowlife people. Swedish equivalent of American deep south rednecks.

There is driving skill in that you need fast reaction times to get the right launch unless you are the 1% of drag racers who use manual. The rest is skill in building a fast car, which is heaps more relevant in any sort of drag, legal or illegal, compared to any other motorsport. It's not WRC but there is skill in it.

More like Bonnläppar.
