neat.
sucks it has a skylanders type shit goin on but everything else looks awesome.
seeing how sucessful skyworld was, I wont doubt that this will be just as successful.
disney sandbox? come to me
So...
Skylanders: Disney?
Don't get me wrong, it looks great and everything but I REALLY don't like the prospect of buying toys for it.
I really hope this skylanders bullshit doesn't become the norm with games.
apparently someone put up a thread in the news section, more info and pics are there:

It'd be cool if there were stealth type missions playing as Perry the Platypus.
What the hell is Skylanders?
What the hell is Skylanders?
A game that you buy but then in order to actually play the entirety of the game you bought you gotta buy a bunch of little figures which you put onto a light thing that makes the character pop up ingame somehow.
When I buy a game I want to actually be able to play the game I bought, not have to buy DLC through physical toys so I can actually play the game I bought.
What the hell is Skylanders?
Basically Activision saw the Spyro IP they bought and went "Yea, i could rape that" (they later dropped the spyro name from it)
Thus Skylanders was spawned. The game uses NFC tech to get your characters in the game selected, But how do you get your characters?
You have to buy the Figurines! Just like How Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon cards dominated the 90s/early 2000s for kids, it's now NFC Embedded figurines.
The game is a big hit for kids and they made a sequel last year that adds some "giant" version of skylander shit. All the Game Journalism places apparently love it to death but gamers are calling it the ultimate DLC shitfest.
TL;DR
If you like collecting pointless shit using money and would like to use that pointless shit in a video game, this is the game for you.
You guys can beat the game with the included figures that come with every copy of the game, you know.
The others are optional. For Skylanders 1 or 2.

You can still beat ME3 without the on disk DLC.
You can still beat capcom fighting games without on disk DLC.
You can still beat saints row 3 without the on disk DLC.
But it doesn't change the fact that it's essentially scamming. You are buying an incomplete product that you have to pay more for to actually play the entirety of the product you just purchased. And people flipped the fuck out when the three above happened. And that's just off the top of my head.
I would go to the conclusion that all they gotta do is package physical items with it, but tomb raider did the same with with DLC packaged with a themed controller and people got pissed about that too.
What has this got to do with Skylanders?
What has this got to do with Skylanders?
It's got everything to do with skylanders. The entire game is based around on disk DLC. I'm pointing out that in the past, people have done this and they freaked the fuck out. But when skylanders does it and it sells it by making the DLC come with little figures it's all the sudden acceptable?
Wouldn't it be possible to read the NFC on the characters and make an app for Android to transmit the same signal?

It's acceptable because it is a game, aimed at CHILDREN.
The toys can be PLAYED with.
This is COMPLETELY different from other games with on disc DLC, like Capcom games or COD with the 15 dollar map packs that cannot be imported into future games.
When the game is beaten and done, a kid can use the toys IRL, as in, play with them.
A Skylander figure is both a toy and a character for the game. The other unique aspect that you seem to fail to grasp is the entire gimmick that made this a THING in the first place.
My sister can take her Skylander figure that she worked hard to level on our PS3 copy of the game, and go to her friend who has the Wii version, and use her character; upgrades, levels, and money intact.
The whole point, is to be able to carry a figure from system to system, and from house to house. Remember when we lugged Xbox around to do LAN Halo CE? Today, kids need only carry their small figure to a friend who also has the game and portal.
This is an amazing gimmick, something that has never been done! Kids can play with the toy, get their character into the game, and bring it to a friend's house with it still being unique to the kid, and not reset or something!
THIS is why it is popular. Stop bashing it when it was purposely designed this way.
The game is entirely beatable with any Skylander that comes with the game, extra areas only give you optional crap like abilities for figures you won't buy or "hats".
I'm not against DLC being sold as physical items being scanned in. I would prefer it that way as long as prices didn't go up.
I'm not against toys being accompanied by their own game.
I am against the blatant abuse of on disk DLC. I'm trying to figure out how on earth people just let this slide when probably over half the game is locked until you pay up.
If I pay 60 dollars for a game I damn sure better get the full game. I shouldn't have to pay more to actually play the game I got.

Just because it was "purposly designed" to have massive amounts of disk locked content doesn't make it magically OK.
Damn it, now I remember how much I want a sequel to the Incredibles. Looks neat though. I noticed they used the new younger looking Sulley.
