MINNEAPOLIS - Charges will be filed Tuesday against a man who fled police in a stolen vehicle and crashed into two cars in north Minneapolis, killing a mother and her two children.
Rufus Onel Victor, 29, was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail for suspicion of criminal vehicular operation, fleeing police and receiving stolen property. Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said a state trooper was trying to pull over a car driving erratically on Interstate 94 north of downtown Minneapolis.
Roeske said the car, driven by Victor, exited at Dowling Ave. N. less than a minute into the chase, then ran a red light at 2nd Street N. and W. Broadway Ave., crashing with two vehicles.
Killed in the crash were 29-year-old Amanda Jean Thomas and her two children, 12-year-old Andre and three-month-old Akeron. Andre’s godmother says she believes they were heading home from a Hanukkah event.
The Hennepin County attorney’s office said it had not yet received the case Monday morning for consideration of charges, but that charges would be filed Tuesday unless an extension is filed.

:saddowns:
This is why most police departments don't participate in these testosterone-filled dangerous chases.
[editline]I'm pretty dumb[/editline]
Oh yeah didn't see the part about one minute
The thing that enrages me the most about these types of cases is when the innocent victims, people who could have grown up to be someone, are the ones who die, and somehow the idiot criminal scum who'll probably be back on the street committing crimes miraculously survives.

Most departments do engage in high speed pursuits. They will pull back, but continue pursuit at a distance if the chase goes on and the driver becomes too dangerous. Or, more likely, they will will ram the vehicle and neutralize it.
This happened LESS THAN A MINUTE into the chase.
I love how this guy will probably get 10 years and be out.

This isn't the UK, this is America, we put people away for the most minor of indiscretions.
If Minnesota still upholds the death penalty, that may be what he is getting.
Or shanked and raped for killing two children and their mother, most criminals do not like it when somebody who doesn't deserve to die does. There is still, miraculously, a code of honor within the prison system. Sexual predators and people who commit crimes against children usually get put into protective custody upon their arrival. They aren't allowed to interact with the rest of the prison population, they are in their own private cell on lockdown for 23 hours a day, and the 1 hour is for private rec time and showers. The reason for this is because most prisoners look down upon those who prey on the weak, such as women and children. Usually the rapists and child molesters get the worst, but this guy may be up there with them.
Trust me, this guy isn't getting out alive.

How shitty would it be to be the dad wow

Or he'll get out in ten years to make room for a pot dealer.
Because pot dealers ARE SO DANGEROUS.
*sigh*
I don't understand why cops chase guys like this. It's a risk to everybody involved and everybody nearby.

Mn no longer has the death penalty.

Somebody will shank him on the way to the showers, they have 10 years to do him in.

Good to know, information like this is always useful.

Of course. If we legalized pot people would run around stabbing children with joints and burning buildings with pitchforks. Because that's what pot does and that's why it's so dangerous.
/sarcasm
But on the bright side, BANNED USER at least made me more optimistic that this guy woun't be alive for much longer. :buddy:
Indeed, the best way to undo deaths is by killing more people :eng101:
See if we could do things like this it would be so much easier:

God that's sad :frown:
The thing I hate most out of this situation is that the criminal fleeing from the police killed them and is still alive himself, the husband (if the woman is still married) is going to be crushed, for all we know they were the only family he has and now they are gone.
I promise no pun intended on the crushed bit.

Or maybe they'll shank him in the showers.

If you know what I mean.
[editline]7th December 2010[/editline]
With their penis.

What I'm saying is he's going to get raped by a fellow inmate in the prison showers.
Indeed, the best way to undo deaths is by killing more people :eng101:
It's not to undo, but to punish. If he is stupid enough to steal a car and run, then kill a mother and her 2 children, he deserves no place on this planet.
It's not to undo, but to punish. If he is stupid enough to steal a car and run, then kill a mother and her 2 children, he deserves no place on this planet.
Not even necessarily to punish, but to prevent him from killing or harming more people.
I'm pretty sure his intention wasn't to kill a mother and two children, I think his intention was to escape from the police who were chasing him. In fact, if the police hadn't chased him in the first place he probably wouldn't have crashed.
First off, the prison system is a joke, as has already been pointed out; the prison sentence means nothing because people who sell pot are probably going to be in there with him, him, a man who accidentally killed three people after stealing a car. Second, there has to be poor people in this world for there to be a middle and upper class. Often poor people resort to crime to make ends meet, the best one can hope for is that cycles will be broken, it's not like locking the guy up (or killing him) will change past events, or even influence the future, for that matter. While the crime can't go unpunished, viewing him as the scum of the earth and wishing death upon him is pointless and vile, especially under the circumstances.

I don't want him to be killed, but I want him punished and realizing that if he gave up from the start 3 innocent people would be alive.
I don't understand why cops chase guys like this. It's a risk to everybody involved and everybody nearby.
So any time someone hops in a motor vehicle and drives off, the cops should just give up.

The solution to social decay isn't found in a larger, and more aggressive police force. Why try so hard to stop crimes in progress (and endanger more lives) when you can try to prevent crime from happening in the first place.

i wonder how the father feels
Who the fuck is high speed chase

You were expecting him to be smiling after attempting to evade police and then killing a mother and her two children?
The saddest part is that, with them being killed in December, Christmas won't be a time of celebration for the family of the mom and kids.
