Did someone figure out the "why"? What's the common psychological background of all these people? Do they have low self esteem and they try to overcome it by becoming one of a kind? And so they can just shake off all the criticism and hate that other people are giving them by going "you don't understand how it is to be a fucking deer, I don't have to act like a human", you know the victimhood of the smallest minority (1 person)? And also they get more attention from peers and parents than if they weren't a fucking deer or whatever?

Attention seeking, pure and simple. Everyone likes to feel special, these people just don't seem to grow out of it properly. And then these circles they get stuck in; when being a normal person in a normal social circle and feeling like acting like an idiot, what happens? Other people around you gently push you in line. That's how rules of social interaction are learned and perpetuated.
These people got stuck in their circles instead, of people who reassure their behavior as normal. So they don't really [b]feel[/b] the need to adapt.
And then you have posers who don't actually do anything like that, but pretend - for internet points or otherwise, there're a lot of trolls out there I bet. But I don't think there's any genuinely mentally ill people.

I'm watching this and I just stopped for a second because I realized something that bothers me about otherkin and trigger/ableism obsessed type people and all that, I think I've always known this but never honed it in until just now.
This shit is like when children play pretend! Like, no, seriously, in an updated and unhealthy form, this is that. Like when you're a kid and you're with your friends and you pretend to be warriors or whatever? You all make up these wicked awesome things about your character and then sort of interact with each other on this until something clashes like that kid with an everything proof shield, when you've got a kill everything sword.
These people do the same shit. Everyone makes up their own bullshit type of kin or rules that they have, where they're an xkin (which used to be just animals and now since that's not out there enough you have 'fictionkin', 'otherhearted', 'flowerkin', so on, literally everyone designs their own pronouns, or rules like saying that you can never talk about fuckin' goats or whatever around them or they'll lose their fucking shit. (Incidentally I once had an otherkin yelling at me that I should kill myself and when I mentioned I actually struggle with suicide and that shit isn't cool they lost their shit because I had triggered them by mentioning the word suicide, calling me a bastard and continuing to yell at me that I should kill myself)
they also need about 10 different terms that you have to look up what the fuck they even mean (if they aren't completely made up) to describe themselves
it's a grown up unhealthy fantasy world where mentally unstable people make up a bunch of rules and things to call themselves that suit them before rubbing against each other and accepting anything and everything anyone else like them bullshits about as fact (until something inevitably conflicts and brings down the house of cards)
just like fucking children pretending to be cool awesome knights until their traits collide

Yup, for a community in which every other guy/gal/whoeverthefuck claims to be suicidal, Tumblerites are strangely keen on telling people to "kill themselves". Which is awful regardless of the fact if recipient is suicidal themselves or not. It's just something you don't tell people, in general.
And many times when cornered, they'll just say they got triggered and aren't responsible for the shit they said. Shitty person's way of evading responsibility - claim mental sickness.

While this extreme attention seeking often leads to self diagnosis and other exaggerated claims about themselves it's easy to think that they're just lying or pretending and don't need help. But I think it's important that these people get proper help.
I'm not directing this at you specifically but in general a lot of people feel this way about attention seeking.
I have some mental issues which kinda took off when I was around 19 ish. (I'm 25 now and mostly fine!) But this has in indirect ways caused me to be around other people with mental issues. A lot of the people I've met can be vocal and almost proud about their issues and subset of those will even claim (often indirectly) that only they have real issues and everyone else is normal. The ones that aren't much like this have a tendency to push them out of the group or talk behind their back because they come of as just faking it.

I'd be willing to bet that they are mentally sick, but that doesn't excuse them for their actions, that only makes me want to lock them up in some kind of facility.

Ultimately it all comes down to the fact these people are without reason and have to result to ad hominem attacks in the form of 'you're privileged' so they can disregard anyone who's not as insane as they are.
The worst part is that college campuses promote this kind of anti-intellectual thinking with their social programs, ironically making many college experiences more of a brain drain than an education.
