Time for a nostalgia trip! [editline]13th December 2013[/editline] Back in the day (I was 16 in 2000), I would have given both my nuts and my spleen for a rig like that.... HHHHHNNNGG.
there will be videos with titans in these rigs in a few years
We've come a long way, folks
Thief Gold....
I'm so glad IDE was replaced with SATA, them cables are huge. Also glad beige isn't used at all really anymore.
there will be videos with titans in these rigs in a few years
Just imagine watching the Large Pixel Collider 13 years from now. Anything current by then will dwarf its performance by a longshot.
Nice cable management. [sp]And that video card would've made me shit my pants back then![/sp] [editline]13th December 2013[/editline]
We've come a long way, folks
That heatsink looks higher quality than most stock heatsinks nowadays if you ask me
That's some insane looking sound hardware, never seen anything like that, even today. Also, that build is cleaner than most stuff you see today, and it's using like five IDE cables...
As a retro computing enthusiast, this gave me a boner.
OMFG I remember running this benchmark back in the day... and how it made my cheap-ass GeForce 2 MX beg for its life :v: [editline]13th December 2013[/editline]
That's some insane looking sound hardware, never seen anything like that, even today. And I remember I used a 450w power supply, and I didn't even had nearly half the stuff that guy has on that rig! Ah, the n00bness... :v: [editline]13th December 2013[/editline] A closer look at the 3DMark 2001 benchmark
I wonder if anyone here remembers the old Tom's hardware videos, how to unlock Athlon XP's and such.
That's an AGP-Pro motherboard. The fuck is he putting a pussy 3DFX card in when you can drop in a Wildcat and blow away everything with OpenGL? [t]http://vgamuseum.ru/wp-content/gallery/3dlabs-wildcat-4-7110/3dlabs_wildcat4_7110_side.jpg[/t] Why is he also using a Maxtor Slimline? The 7200's were better. Also, why does he need two sound cards in a gaming rig?
Anyone have a comparison to the current highest end pc possible to 2000's? :U the gap in numbers has to be insane. 13 years I know is a huge, huge difference, wonder what about decade will bring.
in 2000 all I wanted was a scooter didn't even have a computer
That case is sexy, I want one for a more modern build
I have and still use the same microphone in the video.
Shit he put a Voodoo5 in it. I remember my dad getting a Voodoo2 and thinking it was the most amazing thing.
OMFG I remember running this benchmark back in the day... and how it made my cheap-ass GeForce 2 MX beg for its life :v:
To be fair the MX version card was the POS cheap version with half of the new pixel shader pipelines removed and inferior memory modules - it never stood a chance! (That's not to say it was bad, but it wasn't comparable to the rest of the range) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_2_Series#GeForce_2_MX
It's amazing how much more vendors are trying to push aesthetics.

Hell, back in the day this is what I wanted my mobo to look like! The difference in color with the front panels of the sound card modules against the case is enough to trigger my OCD. It was a piece of crap, but it ran Q3A in High settings in glorious 1024x768@85Hz, so I had that goin' for me, which was nice. :v:

I mean... if you have a transparent case anyway. Mine's closed off, so it's a bit redundant to have pretty computer bits if you can't see them anyway.

That case....Maximum PC November of 2000 issue; Ultimate Entertainment PC. My favorite issue. That hardware sure brings back memories of what I used to drool over as a kid. Was always out of my reach though...
I was 6 was this was relevant. I also really liked the music in the video, is it from 2k as well?

The size of the Voodoo makes me giggle. It's like a school lunch tray I remember my first video card, a VooDoo 3 because Delta Force Land Warrior required a video card
