This is my band, Artificial Night. We play a mix of soft atmospheric prog rock and technical metal, with some folk and death metal influences mixed in. I play guitar and sing. www.myspace.com/artificialnight We started up about 2 years ago but have only recently gotten our act together and really started to do stuff. On the Myspace there's a pretty well recorded version of a song I wrote for the album we're putting together, and a very old version of an instrumental track we've just rearranged and recorded for a demo/EP thing we're finishing up. As well as an old, pretty bad cover. We've got a few videos from our first two gigs at a local battle of the bands from a few months ago (two with a proper mix, one with bad audio), and one of our drummer recording the drums to the new version of Intermelocity (the instrumental): We also now have a video of us recording Intermelocity, with the final mix of the song. Medicated Suite live at NSS (excuse the talking at the beggining, and the intro was a bit of an experiment, we've cut it down a bit now): Demon of the Fall (Opeth cover) live at NSS: Intermelocity live at NSS (crappy audio quality, both because it's recorded straight off the camera and the mix was shit): Intermelocity drums: Hope you guys like it. Comments would be great. Be constructive, I want some good criticism.
Not bad, but you should do covers of some more technical stuff. I can hear the skill, but you have more showing off to do.
You showed me this on steam a few months ago, right? It's pretty damn awesome.
Damn, you guys are fuckin' great.
Pretty nice, but I hear some timing errors here and there.
Haven't posted here in ages, but just an update. We've had a few hiccups but recording and whatnot is going along nicely. One more song to finish up and then it's just final touches. We've been playing a few gigs around the place and have been pretty well received so that's good. Had about 50-60 people at one of them. We also have this video up now, it's a mixdown of about half of Intermelocity from a while ago, with video of everyone (except me) recording their parts. No idea where the footage of me has gone, but oh well. You can't hear the keyboards because the computer we're recording on has a crap hard drive and won't mix down what we've recorded, so you'll have to deal with some mistakes and no keyboards. We have finally finished Intermelocity. Here's the video. I think it turned out really well.
Medicated Suite Insanely good quality on the recording first off, the piano really sets the tone well I think and even though it's so simple it goes on for a pretty long time, which works well. Once the main riffing starts (I can hear the death metal influences now) The bass seems a bit untight, the bassist looks to really enjoy himself though. The main riff itself is sweet, the drumming works well. Your solo guitar seems to be nervous though and it shines through his playing causing it to sound worse than it is. Love the accoustic guitar, the solo guitar appears more confident now (probably the initial stage fright leaving). The bass that joins in is really sweet and I like the changing between accoustic piano going alone and everything else joining in. The folk influences are apparent now and you're doing a terrific job mixing death metal and folk. Vocals are good, maybe some more force behind them could do good. The constant changing between hard and accoustic sounds really good, nothing to complain about. It sounds a bit like Jethro Tull, but still its own creation. The harmony works well, the bassists voice compliments your really well I'd say. The headbanging seems a bit forced on the rhythm/vocalists part, the bassist has some pretty cool stage presence though and even when he just stands there you can see he really feeds off the energy of the crowd. Really nice ending, not going to comment on the opeth song. Overall a really, really good track that sounds a lot shorter than it is, which is an amazing feat considering it's so long. Awesome work guys! Intermelocity Love the drum intro, the riff kicking in is cool, the synth is probably just a bit too high though. The solo guitar coming in is a really nice break, the dual guitar sounds sweet. It loses steam a bit when the second riff joins in, but gets back right on track as the drum and synth break plays. I sort of expect sweeping guitars to come in halfway through the riffing to be honest, could do well with some minor variation. It gets there sort of when the piano and guitars play that melody though and it sounds sweet. The break at near the 4 minute mark breaks it off really well, sets a different tone for a song that has been pretty straightforward. Not a big fan of how you did with the twin guitars, it probably could've benefitted from being slower. Second time around it works though, not entirely sure but probably because it goes on for a longer time and ends with the two guitars playing with and against eachother. More of that! The synth coming in near 07:44 has a really sweet tone that I think could've come earlier. The solo guitar after that is too loud I think, it could work better if it was more in the background with the rest of the guys. Something that strikes me now is that the bass guitar should have its mid-low frequencies boosted so that it doesnt clash with the bass drumming. Not a huge fan of the twentyeleventh break at 09:16, it should have come a lot earlier, the vocals are ACE though and damn that falsetto is smooth. Everything beyond that I think is just unnecessary filler, this song sounds longer than it should be and cutting down some on a few parts to make it die at 09:16 could do it a lot of good I think, instead of making you think "damn this is long" it could be "damn this is too short".

I've been starting to think Intermelocity might be a little long myself, although I should have said almost final mix, as there are two solos by the other guitarist missing, so they might add a bit more interest. Thanks for the great input.
