The Kent State University sweater, which was described as "vintage" on the store's web, featured blotches of dark red as well as small holes in the top left hand side. Many questioned whether the sale was appropriate as the Ohio school was the scene of a school shooting in which four students were killed in 1970. The shooting, known as the May 4 Massacre or the Kent State Massacre, involved a number of Ohio National Guard members firing at unarmed demonstrators who were protesting against military operations in Cambodia.
Urban Outfitter's statement:
Urban Outfitters sincerely apologizes for any offense our Vintage Kent State Sweatshirt may have caused. It was never our intention to allude to the tragic events that took place at Kent State in 1970 and we are extremely saddened that this item was perceived as such. The one-of-a-kind item was purchased as part of our sun-faded vintage collection. There is no blood on this shirt nor has this item been altered in any way. The red stains are discoloration from the original shade of the shirt and the holes are from natural wear and fray. Again, we deeply regret that this item was perceived negatively and we have removed it immediately from our website to avoid further upset. How did someone not catch that before it went out to production.
Because it takes a real whiner to notice something like that froma jacket that naturally wore like that.
They should really apologize for how ugly that jacket is instead.
I'd wear it. What better way to remind people about what happened?
The school shooting everyone seems to forget.
The red stains are discoloration from the original shade of the shirt and the holes are from natural wear and fray.
i think a lot of people are missing this
The school shooting everyone seems to forget.
In 30-40 years, no one is going to remember or care about Columbine.
I don't buy it. Too much of a coincidence. Their schools colors aren't even red.
i think a lot of people are missing this
Oh come on, there's no way you can't look at it and realize what it looks like. This could be as innocent a design as possible, and marketing would've still needed to pull it before it hit production.
i think a lot of people are missing this
who cares it was just a bad idea in the first place
I wish they just owned up to it instead of trying to play it off.
In 30-40 years, no one is going to remember or care about Columbine.
There is already a disturbing amount of people on Tumblr who developed a fandom around it.
There are already a disturbing amount of people on Tumblr already developed a fandom around it.
to be fair you can say that for pretty much any subject other than mens rights and it will be true
I'd wear it. What better way to remind people about what happened?
Ditto. Fuck da social po po.
Assuming their true intent was to sell a sweat jacket that look worn, they could have at least not used one that the wear made it look like it was bloodstained for the display picture.
There is already a disturbing amount of people on Tumblr who developed a fandom around it.
#superwholombine I've bought some clothes from Urban Outfitters. They're usually tame looking and hella comfortable.

Halloween at kent state? Best logic I could come up with for its existence.
How did someone not catch that before it went out to production.
Things like this are done intentionally in order to fire up controversy and amass publicity.
-snip double post-
I will never understand the appeal in buying new clothes that look like they've been worn by a homeless man for 10 years
Who the hell would buy that? It's ugly as hell.
I will never understand the appeal in buying new clothes that look like they've been worn by a homeless man for 10 years
Hipster chic bullshit and what not.
I will never understand the appeal in buying new clothes that look like they've been worn by a homeless man for 10 years
If you want that look, you should at least go to real thrift stores instead of buying shit that's made to look old
Oh good lord what: [t]http://a.pomf.se/iskfgw.png[/t] [t]http://a.pomf.se/iprysq.png[/t] [t]http://a.pomf.se/htcznk.png[/t]
I've only seen a couple posts mocking the idea of such a 'fandom' as of late (like the gacy one there), but it's not all that uncommon for edgy social rejects to idolize people who went down in history hating school [editline]e[/editline] that last one is straight-up grounds for calling the police though, even if they're just being a stupid tourist
