Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has suggested considering the introduction of a single currency in the Eurasian Economic Union that’s due to be set up by five CIS nations by January 1st, 2015.
Russian Prime Minister made his suggestion when addressing a business forum in St. Petersburg earlier today.
He feels that one should not grow concerned about the single currency right away; still time is ripe for giving a thought to the idea, given current global market instability.

Ah but it doesn't work in the EU because different countries have different economies that don't scale well with the currency. Whereas the 5 CIS nations all have fairly similar economies, so the currency shouldn't have many issues in that field.
