• ID Cards in USA-Yay or Nay?

So, there are quite a big number of countries with a compulsary ID Card, aka Indetification Card, which can be used for many reasons. Well, to begin with, there are a number of countries that does not requires a compulsary ID card. To name a few: Austria, Canada, Finland, Mexico, Italy, Iceland, France, Sweden, Switzerland and of course, the United States. Now, the United States being the largest member of the group, and most of the people here are Americans, I would like to ask, what is your opinion on having Indetification Cards? Do you think the United States should implement it?
No. They should not. Just out of spite.
No, they shouldn't.
Not an American, but I disagree with the idea of compulsory ID Cards. Especially the kind that were proposed here in the UK. They wanted to take DNA and fingerprint samples from every citizen and put them in a database. They weren't compulsory, but if I remember right, there were things you wouldn't be able to do without one. Thank God the scheme has been abandoned.
We already have an ID card. They call it a Drivers License, or a State Identification Card.
Didn't even know the USA doesn't have no compulsory ID cards, how does that even work out.
I do not see any way it could possibly help, it would just be a huge unnecessary hassle and a big waste of money.
I live in UK. We are now scrapping ID cards I think. They are never good.
See, the thing is that I can't think of a way where they would be necessary. Putting stuff like DNA and fingerprints could be useful for a police officer, but I would be worried about the possible infringements of rights.
It's a waste of time and resources.
What benefit would it provide me? I see none, so no I don't want one.
most of the people here are Americans
no, most of the people on facepunch are british
We already have an ID card. In MD when you get a license they ask you if you've had your license revoked in any other state, because otherwise they'd have to contact the other 49 state governments to get that information.

Anyway, I think they're a real waste of taxpayers money. I mean, I'm sure we all have some way to identify ourselves.
no, most of the people on facepunch are british
No. Someone has posted usage graphs of Facepunch before, the majority of users are from the U.S. [editline]d[/editline] Actually it might have been a plurality, meaning the U.S. has less than 50%, but still more than any other nationality.
A GOOD AMOUNT of the people on facepunch are british
Fix'd
Each state has an ID card, a learners permit card, and a drivers license card. A lot of times cops will rag on your ass for not having one, assuming they have a reason to ask.

Also, my picture didn't look like ass on a stick.

It's plain and simple. Personally, IDGAF about this topic.
Social Security cards, birth certificates, driver's license or general photo id, and passports. We have them in varying forms.

I already have 3 different photo IDs in my wallet, two more without photos, why do I need another?
I already have 3 different photo IDs in my wallet, two more without photos, why do I need another?
In theory the id card would replace all other ones, so you would only have to carry one.
In theory the id card would replace all other ones, so you would only have to carry one.
Except of that whole providing two photo identifications thing for buying guns. And that wallets are usually designed to carry several identification cards at the same time. It's really not that big of a hassle, and if you lost one card in your wallet you're not risking much except if you lose your one-size-fits-all ID.
Who here is from South Africa? V:v:V
It's hardly accurate. It would be awesome if the new Facepunch implementation did a geo-ip "last logged in from <country>" thing for profiles and statistics. That would mean that 2k members are from South Africa.
non-compulsory, everyone does have social-security and the majority will get state drivers license. it is necessary to have these for certain things like purchasing alcohol etc. thats how a nation operates without forcing everyone to carry ID, because they will get one regardless
It's hardly accurate. And it is more accurate than what you think. The IP/Hostname belongs to that reason. Now if it's a proxy, bot, or whatever else... yeah that compromises the analytics of a website. But regardless, the Alexa tracking is "good enough". You're not going to get a magical 30% extra on the UK existance on this website. I know the US has more in the user base than the UK. But keep in mind, we are lazy and fat. And typing on this website is good enough for us.
