[B]From the first man on the Moon, to the man whose followers became known as the Moonies - and from Dallas's JR Ewing to the puppeteer behind Sesame Street's Count von Count - the past 12 months have seen the passing of many well-known figures.

At the end of another year, spend a few minutes looking back at some of the faces - no longer with us - who made their mark on the international stage

Wow, indeed it does seem like this year we lost a lot of well know figures.
2012 was rough
Looking back at it all, it seems like a lot of well known people left us.
More notably Neil Armstrong, holy shit i thought that guy was indestructible...
A lot of famous people to die this year for sure... I guess it's kinda nitpicky of me, but honestly, couldn't BBC have plugged in the extra 10 seconds into thinking of a better title for the article? As if the millions of others that died in 2012 simply aren't "noteworthy" people because they aren't Whitney Houston or Steve Jobs.
Probably the most unexpected deaths as well.
It was made too late to credit Gerry Anderson :smith:
List isn't complete yet, still might have Kalashnikov and Bush Sr. joining that list this year :(
I think that picture is from last year, since Steve Jobs and Amy Winehouse died last year.
Steve Jobs died in 2011.

Happens every year
Steve Jobs died in 2011.
Holy crap time flies, I still remember hearing about it the day after.
I think that picture is from last year, since Steve Jobs and Amy Winehouse died last year.
It is, my mistake.
No point in changing it now, still conveys the same message.
Neil Armstrong is the one that hit me the most :(
He was the first man on the moon. THE FUCKING MOON.
Hope i see science utilized in such an amazing way in my time.

On a tangent here, There were 3 men that went to the moon, how come only one of them is remembered?
On a tangent here, There were 3 men that went to the moon, how come only one of them is remembered?
Probably because they're still alive. As far as knowing who they are I'd say most know the two that actually walked on the moon.

Buzz Aldrin is pretty well known too
Probably the most well-known deaths this year since 2009

There were more than 3, how come you only remember Apollo 11?
Steve Jobs died in 2011.
what the hell i coulda sworn he died only a couple of months ago
On a tangent here, There were 3 men that went to the moon, how come only one of them is remembered?
24 people went to the moon and 12 of them walked on it.
3 men went on Apollo 11 and two of those walked on it, most people know both Buzz and Neil.
Neil's death hit me quite hard, I'd hoped he'd make it to the 50th anniversary.
I'm sad that Dave Brubeck died.

Really? He died? Damn.
Earl Scruggs died this year, early pioneer to bluegrass music and an inspiration to thousands. (including myself :c)

I thought he died last year and Gary Moore this year instead. Mind's playing tricks 0.o
Total shame about Neil though :/
When was that year Michael Jackson died? A LOT of celeb's died on that year, more than this year I think.
