I watched the creatures less and less as time went on until I eventually unsubbed, a shame to see it end but this was inevitable after so long.
Man, this has been a painful process to watch. The various members of The Creatures were some of the first people I actually subscribed to and started closely following on Youtube but ever since they all moved to Colorado and especially since they moved into the office, it's hard to act like I haven't seen this coming. After the move (and in hindsight, even before) the group as a whole never seemed to be able to stick with any of the ideas they had. They would talk about a lot of machinima ideas and I remember Kootra's Unreal tutorials in particular, but every idea seemed to inevitably fizzle out. Not gonna try to point any fingers but it just seems like none of them actually had any idea how to manage a group and I think they just got in over their heads.
I watched them every day when I was younger, saw this coming since Sly left. Sad to see the day has finally come.
I knew Kootra was going to fuck up from the very beginning, with Junkyard and all that. They had a pretty good run early on though. What a way to end it. Dan seems to be actually sad by all this.
I am feeling really bad for Dan.
At least Cow Chop is doing pretty well with Aleks and James.
I remember being really into the Creatures and particularly Seamus. I thought there was no way it could ever really stay the same when I found there were only two left from the original eight that I watched.
how out of the loop am i if i have no idea who these guys are?
how out of the loop am i if i have no idea who these guys are?
eh not really, they've never really been in the mainstream, they were kind of like one of those groups like Yogscast where they have a metric fuck ton of subscribers but never had a huge amount of mainstream relevance. I feel really bad for Dan and the rest of the group because Jordan has a full time job and shit now and is good, Dan doesn't have shit and has kind of just been left out in the water to drown. Hopefully he finds another YouTube group to join soon or gets a job etc because I really hate seeing him this way.
Considering how many people would leave and join all the time this doesn't seem that surprising. [editline]14th July 2017[/editline] Holy shit the comments are pissed at Kootra. I knew the guy was a jerk but what did he do?

[editline]14th July 2017[/editline] Holy shit the comments are pissed at Kootra. I knew the guy was a jerk but what did he do?
There's been a lot of drama with Jordan being allegedly the reason James left, which was the final nail in the coffin for the creatures. Tl;Dr there used to be a member named Stef. James wanted to go out with Stef but Jordan said no because he doesn't want any relationships between members of the corporation. Jordan proceeds to start dating Stef a few weeks later. (Hence "HOPE THE PUSSY WAS WORTH IT" comments) this royally pisses off James and leads to James, Aleks, Joe, and Arin leaving and creating cow chop. This also led to James not streaming much anymore because trolls used it as ammo and it really dug under his skin. Jordan was also the person who originally started making the creatures into a business instead of a YouTube group which pissed off a lot of people, and started censoring content and controlling members lives (Dex left because Jordan basically said that he couldn't go out to parties while he was a member because family friendly content etc.). Jordan also sold the creatures to Rooster Teeth which pissed off even more people, Jordan overall just has been a pretty bad leader of the group and a lot of people attribute him as the big reason the Creatures are splitting and a big reason a lot of members left. His disingenuous tone throughout the entire video with the slight smirk didn't really help either.
When they kicked out Gassy that was when I stopped caring and watching. Then I just stopped watching these kind of streamers all together. Jerma985 is really the only one I watch anymore.
One thing that didn't help in the long run for the group was the partial hostility felt in some parts of the fanbase towards any newer members, which was immediately exacerbated once they moved into the office and brought in employees, which were from then nicknamed "interns" by the fanbase, not considered real Creatures, and thank goodness with Cow Chop they realized this and made sure to point out that everyone involved in it is a part of Cow Chop. I remember when Dex joined for that brief period, and the fanbase was really split over him. Compare that to when he appeared in Cow Chop, everyone was generally fine with it. And even by the end of things, folks were still pretty split on Spencer. Though this may have also been the result of the direction the group began taking once they got the office, with the slow adoption of more and more family friendly content, including the toy reviews. While before you could see that the group was headed in a weak direction (arguably with the first departures of Chilled and Junkyard, and later Gassy), this move towards family friendly content really did usher a new era that finally displayed the writing on the wall that's been always there with neon green colors. I still don't exactly understand why Jordan or whoever suggested this direction went ahead with it, since the YouTubers in the genres they were entering were already firmly established, especially with the toy reviews. The earlier ones with James were more entertaining since they put a bit of a spin on the formula, while the later ones were just basically "man meows while playing with child's thing". I don't think Jordan, or even Dan for that matter, are bad people. I just think that with the slow rise to success they had, things got out of hand for them quickly, and their own ideas and ambitions for the group went over their head and ultimately cost them their core audience, whom I assume have switched to Cow Chop or a different multi-YouTuber group. In the video itself, one could tell that things have affected the two differently. With Jordan having a full time job, he's effectively freed himself of the burden he put himself under all these years, and could finally breath easy. Meanwhile, Dan doesn't have as much of a safe net, and you can tell that people accusing him and Jordan for the failings of the group had gotten to him. Last time I saw him, he was a lot bigger, and I'm guessing that's not a result of exercise as it was with James. It's just sad how things turned out in the end, with all the drama slowly eating the group inside out like a cancer. I only wonder what could've been if Jordan had just communicated more with the community during those more urgent periods, instead of leaving it up to the others like James, Spencer, the Joes, Dan, Stef, etc.
Dan seems to be pitching himself for voice acting work on Twitter now, and it's looking pretty promising, so hopefully we'll start seeing him in some games etc.
