In a video this weekend, the noted action hero star who first rose to world-wide attention when legendary Bruce Lee beat him in the film Return of the Dragon in 1972, Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris and his second wife Gena proclaimed that “We’re at a tipping point and, quite possibly, our country as we know it may be lost forever if we don’t change the course in which our country is headed.” Unfortunately for the noted actor and martial arts champion, facts are not on his side. His claim that over 30 million evangelicals did not turn out to vote in 2008 does not bear out. There are an estimated 74 million evangelicals who are registered to vote in this country, of which 67 million voted in 2008. Even if you include the unregistered but eligible evangelical voting block, you still are at roughly half of the numbers Mr Norris calls for. And even then, the Evangelical vote has shifted away from Republicans, as the evangelical movement has become younger and more diversified, with more than 1 in 4 voting for Obama in 2008. More discouraging is how obvious Mr. Norris reveals himself easily susceptible to suggestion. But it also is a dog whistle to certain elements on the right-wing. One finds the refrain “1000 Years of Darkness” used by those who believe in the rapture (something not found in the bible) to call the era immediately post rapture, after which shall be the end of the world. It appears as if Mr. Norris is proclaiming that Obama is what the rapturists call the Anti-Christ without ever saying it. Despite his credentials in martial arts and his acting ability, Mr. Norris seems to have some learning to do about both his own religion as well as the nation into which he was born. This nation was not founded on a religious dogma which did not even exist until the early part of the 19th century, but instead the basis comes from the lessons of the Enlightenment, that all men are created equal. That he is pushing these obvious lies is even more disturbing due to the platform his fame has afforded him. With great power comes great responsibility according to Stan Lee. Mr. Norris is abusing his power by spreading a gospel of hate. Growing numbers of non-white evangelicals and changing attitudes among younger Christians are reshaping the politics of American Christianity Chuck Norris threatens ’1,000 years of darkness’ if Obama wins Chuck Norris’ First Name is Actually Carlos National Voter Turnout in Federal Elections: 1960–2010 17 Million Evangelical Votes Can Lead to Obama’s Defeat?
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/09/03/chuck-norris-declares-1000-years-of-darkness-if-obama-re-elected-video/ at least the video is short
Someone read too much Foundation.
Someone read too much Foundation.
You can never read too much Foundation.
this is because he's black isn't it
That's racist.
what a fucking idiot.
It's not a warning; it's a threat!
1000 years of darkness for a 4 year term? how on earth does that work exactly?
1000 years of darkness for a 4 year term? how on earth does that work exactly?
hitler resurrected 1000 year reich fulfilled?
So evangelical Christians are good and socialism is evil and going to destroy America. Thanks Chuck Norris for enlightening me.
While he is a good actor, and a badass, how much politics does he know? Also, I could say the same thing with Romney, or even Palin if she somehow wins next election. How is it going to bring a so-called 1000 years of darkness? Maybe there will be a president that is the worst, but so far, the better option is the Democrats right now, that doesn't say much.
We discovered Chuck Norris's weakness. Politics.
There is no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard, there's only stupid and uneducated ideas.
why can't we just have a good moderate in office for once?
Maybe you guys are taking the 1000 years of darkness tbing a little to literal
Bruce Lee is way cooler anyway
I've never liked Chuck Norris. He's an overrated asshole.
Someone read too much Foundation.
It's not so bad - 1,000 years was if things went right. If Romney is elected, it'll be the 30,000 years of darkness that Seldon warned of. Someone hasn't read enough Foundation.
1000 years of darkness for a 4 year term? how on earth does that work exactly?
Once you go black, you never go back.
Chuck Norris has always been an idiot and a bad actor. The Chuck Norris jokes were at his expense, not because he's actually a bad ass.
why can't we just have a good moderate in office for once?
You do
I'm American and I don't get why most other Americans dislike socialism.
this is because he's black isn't it
yes because nobody may harbor the opinion that Barack Obama isn't a good President and not be racist
I'm American and I don't get why most other Americans dislike socialism.
Because its UNAMERICAN
I'm American and I don't get why most other Americans dislike socialism.
a lot of americans are ignorant about anything other than normal 'american' values and because a lot of americans are idiots this video honestly seems like it should be satire. but it isn't. :(
yes because nobody may harbor the opinion that Barack Obama isn't a good President and not be racist
well he did say 1000 years of darkness. maybe he thinks we'll have black presidents for the next 1000 years
What a douche.
old white people
Now he's got the majority of 9gag voters to vote for Romney. Oh wait they're too young to vote.
why can't we just have a good moderate in office for once?
As if Obama is anything but moderate.
