Not only have both of Feig's last two features been female driven (three if you include Spy), he also was the brilliant mind behind the short-lived series Freaks and Geeks - which centered on Linda Cardellini's angsty teenager character Lindsay Weir and her personal struggles growing up in mid-80s Michigan. I wouldn't be too surprised if some of the many funny women Feig has worked with in the past wind up joining him on this new adventure. Ghostbusters 3 is aiming to start production at the start of 2015, and while Sony has not yet set a release date, we can probably assume the theatrical release will happen sometime in 2016. Dan Aykroyd is committed to return as Dr. Raymond Stantz, though Bill Murray has said no to coming back as Dr. Peter Venkman. Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddmore, is a bit of a question mark at this stage, as he was quoted saying, "There can't be another Ghostbusters without Harold." Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
i thought there already was a ghostbusters 3?
Bill Murray in a wig & stuffed bra, then??
It's worth noting that the people that actually broke this story, the hollywood reporter, are also claiming sources are saying it's gonna be a straight up reboot now. Not sure why cinemablend left that detail out but yeah if that's true they might be ditching the old script entirely. This film is so fucking cursed lmao. [editline]2nd August 2014[/editline]
Bill Murray in a wig & stuffed bra, then??
Bill Murray doesn't seem to be interesting in going anywhere near this film lol. They've been trying for years to get him on board with this but he keeps just ignoring them. He probably has the right idea to be honest.
All that comes to mind is Ghostbusters meets Charlie's Angels.
This is going to be such a trainwreck if they actually go through with it.
I've been rather optimistic about Ghostbusters 3, imo I don't think we will ever see a GB3, and even if one gets fully produced and released, I don't think it'll be very good at all since Bill Murray isn't very interested in a third GB film, Harold Ramis is gone unfortunately, and this film has been through development limbo for many years now.
I really don't want there tobe a third movie. It just won't live up. Don't be another Indiana Jones 4...
Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
I dunno if they need a "reason" as such. If they just had a few female scientists who set stuff up together, there wouldn't need to be an explanation for "why they're all girls", just like they didn't need to write an explanation for why the original team were all guys
Egon didn't die for this.
Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
Women are more sensitive to ghosts or the ghosts are misogynists.
Ten bucks says it'll just be a shitty cash grab with a half-assed plot that's meant to make money solely because it's called "Ghost Busters".
We already had Ghostbusters 3, it's called Ghostbusters: The Videogame and it's fucking rad.
Ten bucks says it'll just be a shitty cash grab with a half-assed plot that's meant to make money solely because it's called "Ghost Busters".
Wait. I thought that's what the second movie was? There is seriously not hope for this movie imo.
I dunno if they need a "reason" as such. If they just had a few female scientists who set stuff up together, there wouldn't need to be an explanation for "why they're all girls", just like they didn't need to write an explanation for why the original team were all guys
i mean like if this is a sequel, why would there be a female-only sect of the ghost busters. is there also a black-only one, a indian-only one, a Transgender-only one, etc. For special cases? like is there a Special team that focuses on female-oriented ghosts (ones that would kill men on sight because they hate men, for example) and thats why it's female-only? Because it would make sense to have a Full-blooded Indian-american Team that focuses on Indian-burial ground/Indian Reserve ghosts type-stuff, A Voodoo/Witchcraft-based team that focuses on those specific type of ghosts, etc. because that idea would seriously be sweet. tons of spinoff potential. if it's a reboot i can understand the "they got together by coincidence and made a awesome team" but i dont really see the point of a reboot. maybe im just overthinking this movie and it will be some dumb milking movie.
I dunno if they need a "reason" as such. If they handle female Ghostbusters as just Ghostbusters that happen to be female then it should be alright, but if they end up wearing bikini uniforms then it won't end well.
Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
why should there be a reason for that they didn't have to explain why the original ghostbusters were all men, why would they have to explain this
I don't get it. Why remake ghostbusters without the original characters? Weren't the characters like, the whole point of ghostbusters? I only remember like, two ghosts from the movie, so it's not like they were very memorable. If the original cast is all dead/aging, and you can't find anybody to play those characters well, just, you know, don't do it. It's pointless.
Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
I always thought they should do it that the old Ghostbusters are getting to old, so they pass the job onto a new group. Oscar would somehow be involved, Egon's dead now, etc.
-snip-
I see no problem with the idea. Anyone whining is just a pessimist or just mad about feminism or w/e. And three movies in 30 years is not milking.
I see no problem with the idea. Anyone whining is just a pessimist or just mad about feminism or w/e. You know, I was originally fine with them making a Ghostbusters 3, even without Bill Murray. Then Harold Ramis died. They really should just leave the film series alone. The comics can stay, though.
I really don't want there tobe a third movie. It just won't live up. Don't be another Indiana Jones 4...
It's all about the writing. I strongly believe that everyone involved gave it all they could with the material provided.
why should there be a reason for that they didn't have to explain why the original ghostbusters were all men, why would they have to explain this
Because when they got together it was coincidentally 3 guys. We know absolutely nothing about the state of the ghostbusters company in-universe since Ghostbusters 2. They could be A Multi-national corp right now for all we know due to them being continually sucessful if Ghostbusters 1&2 has anything to show for it. Multi-National companies want to keep good PR. In this current time of "Job Gender Diversity" where there is a attempt to force 50/50 Gender ratios there would be no reason to have a single-gender team unless for a specific cause. Thats why i think the Special-ops teams would be a great way to explain it. If it's a reboot, Great then you don't need a reason to explain it and we will have super cool kickass girl ghostbusters. If it's a sequel, explain please. i really do hope im not sounding sexist at all, as it is not my intention to be.
As Far as I am concerned this is the only true third film
The problem isn't that it's an all female cast, the problem is that they're rebooting ghost busters without the original cast and therefore will probably suck.
The problem isn't that it's an all female cast, the problem is that they're rebooting ghost busters without the original cast and therefore will probably suck.
You realize NOTHING about remakes inherently dictates something will be bad. Like with any project where multiple people work together on, it depends on the people. Develop an opinion of your own rather than what other people tell you.
I'm down for an all-female ghostbusters as long as it's good, but the question is really what are they planning to do to make a film about people trapping ghosts interesting again other than making them women?
