Dmitry Dayneko uploaded a video of himself doing the popular online challenge and nominating the country's long-serving president to follow suit. But he was soon called in to the local youth affairs office and his school in Berezino and told off, the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty reports. Police said everyone in the video would be fined unless they took it down. Dimitry says he was told he'd "done something against Lukashenko". But he says: "It was just a stunt. It's just a game. We just wanted to start things off, to see what happens, maybe we'd be lucky."
Well, Belarus is the last communist holdout in Europe. Can't expect them not to over react when someone mentions dear leader.
Dimitry says he was told he'd "done something against Lukashenko"
Oh no, somebody posted a harmless dare on the Internet, time to get tyrannical
What? It's just a friendly challenge. How can it be construed as being some personal attack?
Some poor guy on FP nominated garry once, got picked up by the mods the next day and was never seen again
What? It's just a friendly challenge. How can it be construed as being some personal attack?
Because a lot of people don't get how social media is supposed to work, especially the older generation, and especially in places like Belorussia.

This is calling failing basic human interaction
Well, Belarus is the last communist holdout in Europe. Can't expect them not to over react when someone mentions dear leader.
Belarus isn't communist
Belarus is Authoritarian though. [editline]4th September 2014[/editline] It's actually somewhat worrying that a "country" that is basically lill miss dictatorship has been a thing for years now in Europe.

Sounds like communism to me.
I see Belarus described as the little USSR very frequently.
What? It's just a friendly challenge. How can it be construed as being some personal attack?
trying to assassinate dear leader through hypothermia
Some poor guy on FP nominated garry once, got picked up by the mods the next day and was never seen again
Nah that didn't happen, that guy is safe and well. Probably.
spoiler tags are [sp] this[/sp] oops, [sp] [./sp] remove the period
Thanks, I just found them on labpunch :v: Think I'll keep the original post anyway.
In 2014 Lukashenko announced introduction of new law that will prohibit kolkhoz workers (around 9% of total work force) from leaving their jobs at will — change of job and living location will require permission from governors. The law was compared with serfdom by Lukashenko himself
I knew that Belarus had it bad but its surprising once you scratch the surface while doing research.
it's not that bad
it's not that bad
How many guns do they have pointed at you right now?
I knew that Belarus had it bad but its surprising once you scratch the surface while doing research.
Well great to know that government-sanctioned serfdom in Europe still exists in the year 2014.
I knew that Belarus had it bad but its surprising once you scratch the surface while doing research.
They actually have collective farms? What.

Lukashenko melts in water, I'm surprised he wasn't picked up for attempted murder.
An authoritarian state where the government owns every company. Sounds like communism to me.
The correct term is state capitalism. A communist society was never supposed to be an authoritarian or totalitarian state with a centrally planned economy, it just happened that pretty much every country that tried it ended up that way. A communist society has never really existed, because a communist society is supposed to be stateless. The term "communist state" is pretty much an oxymoron.
Thanks, I just found them on labpunch :v: Think I'll keep the original post anyway.
Man, you'd think a moderator would know one thing or two about ta
Some poor guy on FP nominated garry once, got picked up by the mods the next day and was never seen again
You can still hear his screams coming from the OIFY
I knew that Belarus had it bad but its surprising once you scratch the surface while doing research.
Wait, so the guy that introduced the law said the law is comparable to serfdom? He's just saying, "Hey, I'm reintroducing serfdom"? Did he have his PR guy stuffed in a gulag or something?
IIRC Belarus is pretty much the only ex-Soviet state still loyal to the big blob to the right. And they sure do treat their people badly, like the former big red blob that owned it.
it's not that bad
Holy fuck, a Belarusian on facepunch. never woulda known
