Barnes & Noble announced Thursday that it planned to open four new concept stores this fiscal year that will have an expanded food menu -- and also serve beer and wine. But no vodka. Sorry, Chelsea Handler. The first store will open in Eastchester, NY in October. Three more are set to open at the Edina Galleria in Edina, MN, the Palladio in Folsom, CA, and at One Loudon in Loudon, VA.
I live near one loudoun (they misspelled it in the article. Great editing CNN) in ashburn, va (loudoun is the county, CNN). I'll report on the concept once the barnes and noble gets built.
I'm thinking someone who has that much free time and and money isn't gonna be drinking at B and N.

If they're going for something like a quieter, more toned-down pub experience (just conjecture based off the theme of books) I could definitely see the appeal in that. Realistically though I probably wouldn't end up spending my Friday night there.
If they were to add some cognac or straight whiskey, I'll be there daily :v:

As someone who works at Barnes and Noble, this is both a dream and a nightmare. On the one hand, I could get a discount on beer. On the other hand, customers are already a pain in the ass without being drunk.
I had a friend that would go to Barnes and Noble, grab a coffee, and then read a book there. She would either read most of it, jot down the page number, or read all of it. When she wanted to leave she would put it back on the shelf. Does anyone do this? I always start reading a chapter and if I catch myself reading more than like 5 minutes, I think the book is good enough to purchase and take home. I never thought, hey, lets read the book here.
old people spend their whole day there reading just one book without buying it
is there anything to stop them from doing that? Loitering policy?
I'm thinking someone who has that much free time and and money isn't gonna be drinking at B and N.
I don't like to go out to bars and clubs. I life quiet places. Being able to drink a beer at B&N will be cool. I can grab a beer at the B&N, then walk across the street, grab a beer at the Alamo drafthouse, and catch a movie too
is there anything to stop them from doing that? Loitering policy?
Nah, they don't mind people doing that at all
It's actually good for business, people who spend more time at a bookstore tend to buy books when they have the money for it. When they don't have the money for it, the store doesn't mind them getting their fix anyway, because they know sooner or later they'll buy something.
old people spend their whole day there reading just one book without buying it
I study for certification tests at bookstores without buying the book. Other people do this too considering how many people are hanging around that area with backpacks and laptops.
How about begin price matching with competitors then I'll actually bother to buy your books. Barnes & Noble is practically a library without the renting.
I like the convenience of buying a book and being able to read it the same day, as well as being able to browse the bookshelf and read a little bit before I buy. Also I love starbucks. It's a great experience overall and I don't mind paying a little extra
old people spend their whole day there reading just one book without buying it
They probably buy a couple cups of coffee though which makes more than the books
Barnes & Noble already sounds like a bar.
