Alright, so here's my situation in a summed up, shortened version.
Basically, I'm currently majoring in Aerospace engineering.
However, there's a problem. I LOVE music. I love playing music, I love listening to music, I love everything about it, and if I could immerse myself fully in it, that would be absolutely incredible.
HOWEVER (again, I'm not an English major, fuck off).
The lifestyle terrifies me. The idea of not having a steady income, or not knowing if you'll get a paycheck the next day or be able to pay the rent freaks me out. I'm a person of habit and stability, and that's why this makes me so uncomfortable. Now, mind you, I do have a passion for engineering and the raw ability to create something out of nothing, but that's nothing compared to my love for music.
How the heck do I deal with something like this?
Finish your degree, then try to get a career in music. You only get one life, spend it doing the thing you love the most.
If it doesn't work out, you'll always have your degree to fall back on.
do you have dudes that you could form a band with
you don't have to make it a career, it's fun thing to have on the side.
bands are awesome
^True
Finish your degree and get a job. Start the music thing as a hobby and get yourself a band.
1. Make songs
2. ???????
3. profit
You know something? I'm sure you guys will agree with me, but people who don't enjoy music confound the FUCK outta me.
I mean, music is one of the most beautiful things in the world, next to food and women. Why the hell would somebody not enjoy it to the best of their ability?
I'm terrified of working in a cube farm, and formal clothing. This is why I like that engineers are often sent on-site.
My mom sings at clubs and weddings. She gets paid almost the same amount as anyone with an office job would in a week for one night. Sometimes she doesn't work at all in a week and other times she sings at least twice.

This is what I plan on doing.
As a sidenote, what the fuck happened to the icons? They've disappeared underneath the posts.
Music is probably one of the easiest artsy-fartsy careers to get a steady job in, next to film and literature.
If you want to be a dancer or artist, good luck.
Get yourself economically stable with some engineering job, then shift over progressively more to music when you're most comfortable.
Why don't you do aerospace and just play music on the side. Nothing stopping you from playing gigs and making music even if your a aerospace engineer.
Get your degree, and just play music on the side.
If it starts to get pretty big, start playing full time.
That is what this guy did;

Because there are other arts and forms of expression that people find just as fulfilling?

Well, what I mean is, why would anybody not enjoy music, period?

Because some people aren't as sound-oriented as others?

Because they don't like it. Just because you love something so much doesn't mean everyone else has to love it that much.
Get your degree first. But having a hobby is fantastic, it makes you more motivated and productive on your regular job.
My degree is my hobby, I do interactive media (Programming, but making it look artsy), I want to be an animator, graphic artist, web developer, programmer, app designer, advertisement designer, audio engineering etc. This course is pretty much what I want to do for the rest of my life, and CAN (note, can) lead to a very comfortable lifestyle.
As other people have said, at least you will have a degree to fall back on. (Aerospace engineer musician lol) You're set.
Finish the engineering degree, be an engineer, and if you happen to find yourself in a situation where you're in a band and able to live the life you always dreamed of tell your boss to fuck off and go join the band full-time

This.
Also, you don't have to make engineering your life, you can use it to fund your music.
You need something to fall back on if you become a musician so get a degree in a stable industry first.
I'm going for an avionics engineering( Aeroplane flight instruments) through the RAAF. Then going to commercial engineering. I like modeling and psychology a lot, so I might do a psycology degree and do modeling as a hobby.

So yeah, do your degree.
