Almost 200 branches of Subway have cut ham and bacon from their menus, serving halal meat in response to calls from their Muslim customers.
The sandwich chain said 'following a strong demand from our Muslim customers', 185 outlets in the UK and Ireland have introduced the meat, which is prepared under strict Islamic rules.

Goodbye BMT :(
Why is the UK bending over backwards for Muslims anyway?
But Daily mail so grain of salt or w/e
Is this real or just a made up daily mail thing again?
Is this real?
Easy. If you really care don't eat at subway.
why cant we have both
Insert muslim England joke here. Seriously, though, that's so fucking stupid.
They take away our 'Merry Christmas' .. then people take away our "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep". Now people take away our meat.
This is the last straw :v:
Its time to...
Write a angry letter!
Subway has been shit for a good while anyway.
the only paper that seems to be reporting this is the daily mail. there is no other source. there are only quotes stating that subway is replacing meats in some chains with halal meats (which are no different)
http://www.subway.co.uk/menu/subs/classic/default.aspx
all of the subs including ham and bacon are still here; why is the daily mail even allowed to be posted here?
What? Why can't they just warn Islamic customers that the subway melt that has ham and bacon on it, has ham and bacon on it? And then ALSO have halal meats?
Wait, let me guess, you can't do that can you? Some kind of rule against it?
Oh, and do you have another source besides dailymail?
I had bacon in my subway today.
When does this come into effect? It makes it sound like it already is.
There's a local source here about two stores: http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristol-Subway-stores-remove-pork-menus-offer/story-21035658-detail/story.html
what the fuck

Subway are just increasing their customer base.
Much like a lot of KFCs are halal.
Also it says 200 branches, there's like 1400 or something in the UK, it'll only be subways that are areas with a large Muslim community.
So if you live in a middle class white area you can stop worrying about your sandwhich
Actions like this set a dangerous precedent
What the fuck I usually get a breakfast sub from subway and it's 99% of the time, Bacon and Cheese.
If I go into my subway tomorrow and they say no I can't have my usual breakfast bacon sub I am going flip tables.
why cant we have both
Because they won't have it both ways, they could have simply asked for a choice but instead nobody can have it.
Why does no-one see this as a problem?
Halal is a pretty creul way of slaughtering animals even by our standards and for what? So that Muslims won't have their feelings hurt...?
why remove it though
It was doing absolutely no harm by being an option
Like, holy shot, who sat down and said "yes this makes perfect sense"

'All our suppliers comply with EU animal welfare legislation as a minimum and we require suppliers of halal products to adopt the stunning of animals prior to their slaughter.
its pretty much the same thing but with more 'allahu ackbar's

They maybe stunned but they're still alive as they have their throat slit and slowly bleed out, for absolutly no reason.

I hear America also offers a wide variety of bread styles, too - take this, for instance.

:v:
Now THAT is a footlong.
I asked my friend who works at Subway about this, and he reckons that they're only doing this in areas with a large Muslim population and hence the pork stuff just isn't popular, hence Subway save money.
There has been a halal subway in Nottingham for years. 200 branches isn't that many, according to their website they hit 1000 stores back in 2007 and currently average about 5 new stores opening every week. There are about 6 subways within a 10 minute walk from my college, if your local one turns halal, chances are you can find another.
its probably only in local stores...
living in a Jewish neighborhood, the subway stores that have opened here (and closed :v:) have complied with kosher regulations to remove some foods from the menu.

well its a shame that it has to be like that but incapacitating the animal before it has its throat slit isnt very different whatsoever to the standard slaughter process in terms of ethics.
its also unusual however that a lot of people in the comments section think UKIP will stop this; UKIP want to get rid of the eu legislation that would allow halal butchers to slaughter animals without stunning them.
Well that's kinda stupid, in the sense of taking it too far at least. How about instead of taking away the ham and bacon, you keep the ham and bacon whilst also having the halal stuff as options for Islamic folks, who for some strange reason are opposed to pork and blood.
Let the "believers" wallow in their sun-god dogmatics, by all means, but if the dogmatics end up affecting the people who do not buy into their delusions, then the joke is going too far. Just because the halal option is there, that doesn't mean it should be the only option available just because they think that Allah frowns upon it. The Dweller in the Cube has no true power over man, because it doesn't even exist. It's just a very strange idea, like many very strange ideas in the world today.
