[QUOTE=Shugo;46772150]forgive me, but

Its a hair extension, or a wig. They look hella fake though a lot of the time unless you can get a good one.
[QUOTE=Shugo;46772150]forgive me, but

Black ladies wear them because they don't have hair or something and it was always really funny in high school when they got in fights and whoever won was apparently whoever "snatched" the others weave first
truly the gentleman's duel of our generation
[QUOTE=Shugo;46772150]forgive me, but

Surprised so many people here don't know what a weave is. :v:

I know I sound exceptionally racist so someone please lay it on me but the weave thing looks like black women are not happy with the way their hair grows?

african hair has a set of phenotypes that sets african hair at a distinct opposition to traditional conceptions of "beautiful" hair in the west, and as such requires a fuckload of processing to turn it into "white" hair. many people of african descent, if their hair grows out it'll grow out with super tight curls which need to be combed for hours until they reach a "normal" level
as such, there's a couple things that people do: wear their hair naturally (which includes a massive variety of "black" hairstyles), continually process it via constant straightening, (more) permanently process it by getting hair chemically straightened / treated, or finally, say fuck it all and get a weave aka a wig

its tied up very heavily with social norms in regards to appearance, affects both men and women but women substantially more as most men have the option of wearing their hair extremely short.
and to add to the post above me
weave is probably the simplest way to make your hair look good if you happen to have that kind of hair

good by western standards that is
This man seems legitimately destroyed by this discovery.

Yeah I can attest to this, I dated a girl from Kenya and she taught me this. Also water tends to mess with any attempt to straighten, perm or otherwise. Poor girl had to get the perm treatment redone every month or so.
