:vomit:
now we dont own games. We buy temporal and limited access to a market place.
Microtransactions have become cancerous lately. Especially when early access games (looking at you PUBG) decide to shoehorn in loot crates rather than fixing serious or annoying bugs.
Mods are actually consumables for bonus exp? Fuck that, like the video covers those used to be options, never mind cheat codes. You flipped those once you got good enough at career mode to not need to be babied by auto-braking or automatic transmission. I guess I haven't missed out anything by not getting an Xbox One to continue the Forza series. Last one I played was Horizon, and despite the DLC it was decent and definitely pushed the limits of the 360, but the series seems to be taking a rapid downhill plunge.
you can get horizon 3 and forza 7 on pc now btw (not that i'd be trying to convince you, of course)
and I'm not interested in upgrading right now, so eh :v:
I mean it certainly isn't the worst means of loot crates but yeah scummy af

They took them out once the competition was over
I still don't mind pubg as much as other games because that was used to fund a prize pool. They took them out once the competition was over
They never said all proceedings went to the prize pool
They never said all proceedings went to the prize pool
"Q: Proceeds? A: Proceeds from the sale of the keys to open the Gamescom Invitational Crate will be used: - To provide funds needed to organize the event - To provide a prize pool for the invitational winners - To support a selection of charities" I don't know how you got the crates, but the keys were used for that supposedly.
This is why I will never, ever buy lootboxes, or encourage microtransactions in games in any way ever [editline]6th October 2017[/editline]
They never said all proceedings went to the prize pool
I know Rocket League's proceeds go towards the comp prize pool so that's pretty cool and I don't mind that as much, especially considering everything in them is aesthetic anyway
Who the fuck introduced this bullshit, wasn't it valve?
Who the fuck introduced this bullshit, wasn't it valve?
Valve basically pioneered the idea while Overwatch popularized and showed big publishers that there is a ton of money made in exploiting consumers lust (and wallets) for cosmetic items or boosts. Slow but surely developers have been becoming increasingly exploiting how far they can go with these loot crates and it's really going to show in this current year of gaming. Microtransactions in general are the next big thing whether we like it or not, and we're going to have to wait and see how long it lasts. It's become less about providing players with optional cosmetics and more about trying to make a quick buck by stripping features from normal core gameplay and instead redirecting them into loot boxes or another form of microtransaction. I disagree with Jim Sterling in some regards. He often stated in his videos that even microtransactions and loot boxes that offer only cosmetics are bad because they paved the way for publishers to get even more greedy with their contents. I think microtransactions being cosmetic only is the way to go; developers surely need a source of revenue stream post launch especially if their game is to be supported for years afterward (Overwatch, Rainbow Six, Counter Strike) and since those games can't rely on player sales alone, they need a source of income. I think this is a valid and totally reasonable business strategy. Par from Counter Strike, which requires paid keys to open the crates, most other games allow free ways to get the cosmetic items at a reasonable price. Hell even R6S's DLC operators can be bought entirely for free with a bit of a grind, but it's entirely reasonable if you play often. The problem comes with big publishers think they can push the boundaries of what can be sold to the consumer. The underlying problem is the current popular loot box trend which is used fairly well in the games that it's implemented in properly - multiplayer only, relatively cheaper priced games that are expected to have a long lifetime and need a source of revenue to maintain it through the years. Publishers have latched onto the craze and are now using it to exploit us by removing once free features as items that can be sold to us. When will it end? When will games now offer keys to get through locked doors for real world currency to get an edge in a singleplayer game? This awful trend is just beginning, and no doubt this won't be the last time we see it in games like Forza, Shadow of War and Destiny. I just hope that it will be a short-lived trend.
I've never had a problem with loot crates in games until recently. Valve's implementation of them in TF2 was perfect, as their contents are mostly cosmetic, and you can craft/find the items that aren't fairly easily. Plus, their introduction made the game FREE. And CS:GO is fine in my opinion because, again, everything is cosmetic and doesn't provide any sort of advantage. Now? Games are starting to implement game changing features like extra damage and whatnot which is fine, but then locking them behind microtransactions. That's not okay, even if the game is free. Then they have the gall to add these to SIXTY DOLLAR GAMES. Loot crates started as something kinda fun and premium into a rapidly degenerative cancer that is actually ruining the games industry. And the worst part is? Morons buy into it. Game devs and publishers have no reason to stop. They know it's easy money, and the flow of that money shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
Between terrible microtransactions and suffering through a 100GB download on the Windows Store, where half the time your downloads wont resume if interrupted, I think I'll sit this one out and keep playing Forza Horizon. It's a shame because it looks like it has the potential to be a great game.
I've always wanted to spread my cheeks and spray hot shit all over my enemies, painting them entirely in horrific brown goo, but game studios these days have been outdoing that by a long shot to their own customers, I gotta say they're way more effective than I've ever dreamed to be, I'm kind of jealous [editline]6th October 2017[/editline]
Between terrible microtransactions and suffering through a 100GB download on the Windows Store, where half the time your downloads wont resume if interrupted, I think I'll sit this one out and keep playing Forza Horizon. On PC you can hack/cheat/mod or just have more alternatives. You just straight up can't get that on console most of the time.
It's a competition who's gonna sink deeper and deeper, might as well go to a real casino.
How is shit like this not illegal? It's practically gambling and I can't imagine some parents would be cool with letting their kids get hooked up blowing money for virtual goodies. I went to Disney World with a friend when Overwatch came out and the entire trip, even when we went to the parks his little cousin had his nose buried in his phone watching loot crate unboxing videos. It's baffling thinking that this is some thing trying to be normalized for the next generation.

Imagine this, players pay for [del]lootbox[/del] x amount of commons, but hey if they are lucky they get more out of it *wink wink*. They aren't gambling, they're just being rewarded randomly! China demands that drop rate numbers be made public. They are on the right first steps.

I don't know why people are suddenly complaining about them. They're extra challenges, like "do 2 perfect corners" or "race in a thunderstorm" or "start in 24th and win". Yes, you no longer get bonus CR from turning off assists, but the bonus for racing against harder AI has been hugely increased. The hardest AI gives a 100% boost. You can also change assists in the pause menu now. I don't know why nobody mentions this since it more than compensates for the lack of bonuses for turning off assists. You can make the races longer too, which also gives you more money. The whole driver suit thing is fucking stupid though. Just let me fucking customize my character. Oh yeah, you also can't even buy these things with real money. There are no microtransactions in the game yet.
