A bank teller was allegedly kidnapped from his home in the US by robbers who strapped a bomb to his chest and used him to steal money from a Bank of America branch. But now the teller has become a suspect in the robbery plot after his story began to unravel, police say. Police continue to investigate how several men — who are still on the run — staged a bank robbery near the University of Miami on Friday morning (local time), Miami news station WSVN-TV reports. See photos: Robbery victim becomes a suspect The FBI released a statement following allegations of the teller's involvement, saying they refuse to rule out any possibilities. "As far as we are concerned, he is still a victim," an FBI spokeswoman said. "He is still being questioned, and that possibility hasn't been ruled out." However, local media are reporting that police now suspect teller Diego Uscamayta was just playing victim in an orchestrated charade. The FBI initially believed Uscamayta's story that he and his father were abducted from their home by three men just after midnight on Friday. The three men allegedly held the teller and his father hostage until around opening time for the bank. Two of the men then reportedly drove the teller to the bank, at around 8.15am. The third man reportedly stayed at the home with the father, who was later released uninjured. When the two suspects arrived at the bank with Uscamayta, they sent him inside the bank with an explosive device straped to his body, police say. FBI special agent Dena Choucair said: "There were bomb making materials in that device. The device was strapped onto the victim." The two alleged kidnappers never entered the bank, but sent Uscamayta in and he approached the bank manager to ask for the money on behalf of the men waiting for him outside the bank. "The branch manager was appraised of the situation and she cooperated," local police spokesman Richard Naue said. "They were asked to remove a large sum of money from the vault." When the teller exited the bank and handed an undisclosed amount of money to the pair they fled in a red Mustang, police said. Police were called at around 8.30am after the suspects fled the scene and everyone except Uscamayta was evacuated from the bank. The suspected explosive device was safely removed by a bomb squad and Uscamayta was brought out of the bank shortly before noon. A major South Florida thoroughfare was closed for hours in both directions at the height of rush hour. Three local schools were on lockdown as a precaution and the University of Miami sent out a campus-wide alert warning students and staff to avoid the area, although classes continued as usual. Initial reports that there were hostages in the bank appeared to be unfounded, but the incident triggered a massive police response because of the possible explosive.
Poor dude.
