I remember seeing a moth just as big as that in school. They're so pretty as they sit there all day long.
It has the largest wing surface area of all movvvss
The actual biggest is the Japanese Oak Silk Moth, I don't know the exact dimensions but it's somewhere around 13cm in length. This one has the largest WINGSPAN of any moth.
I have a phobia of moths, that video scares me more than any horror.
he didn't even put his hand next to it so we could see how big it was...

Look at the tip of the wings, notice that they look like heads. They are supposed to resemble snakes to frighten predators.

I know it might seem like a dumb question, but many animals have the looks for more dangerous animals for protection, but what if that other animal confuses it and tries to mate?
Ok the wing tips aren't THAT convincing.
Oh... :frown:
Ok the wing tips aren't THAT convincing.
Put yourself in the position of a dim-witted predator.
Dan2593 died watching the female Atlas Moth.

That moth gave me a boner
That thing, IS FUCKING HUGE!
he didn't even put his hand next to it so we could see how big it was...
Yeah, we didn't even get a frame of reference.
Mothra was like 200x the size of that puny bastard
I think moths are cute but I still freak out when there's one in the room. :<
Moths are nice. I don't mind them at all. Apart from when they have a wingspan of 50 feet, are shooting fireballs at you, and are named Mothrakk.
I don't like moths.
-snip- for my stupidity...
I saw plenty of those at London Zoo the other week, they had this massive butterfly tent up with all sorts of species, including a bunch caterpillars and chrysalis'. It was awesome, a bunch of butterflies, albeit smaller than the Atlas Moth, came and landed on my arm when I was taking photos, I think they were jealous of all the attention they were getting, so I took a few shots of the others and they flew off. It made me feel like I made a few butterfles happy, go me!
