Hillary won the popular vote by over 150,000 votes.
Hillary Clinton has won more votes than Donald Trump, but there is no chance that she will become the new president.
The Democratic candidate looks almost certain to win the popular vote, with the final ballots left to be counted. The margin is small – with only 0.2 percentage points between the two candidates – but Ms Clinton is winning and looks set to continue to do so.
On the morning after election night, Ms Clinton had collected 59.4 million votes, giving her a 47.7 per cent share, while Mr Trump had 59.2 million votes and a 47.5 per cent share. That was with around 92 per cent of the vote counted, with many of the remaining votes to be totted up from pro-Clinton states like Colorado.
But because of the way that the electoral college works, Donald Trump is set to win a comfortable victory in the election. That is because Ms Clinton was very close in many of the most influential states, like Florida and Texas, and won some small states such as Vermont very comfortably.
Trump has a lot of work to do. The majority of the country does not want him.
150,000 is a drop of water in the ocean. Do you know how many votes were cast...
We democrats need ti stand together and try our damnedest to get the electoral college abolished. Write your representative. Pass out flyers. Protest outside your town hall. Spread the word to every American
150k is only 0.1% of the voting population.

Hell, the majority of his voters didn't even want him. Donald Trump didn't win, Hillary lost. The DNC put out an almost universally despised candidate on a gamble that Donald Trump was the only person in the country she had a realistic chance of defeating, and they fucking blew it. Trump won this SOLELY based on the national distrust of Hillary Clinton.
No matter how you cut it, this election would have produced the most hated president in modern history. Donald Trump, apparently (and shockingly) was just hated a fraction of a percent less
This is really just excess Californians. The founding fathers designed the electoral college to protect the minorities against the majority, giving low population states value to contend with giant population centers. This was a fair win.

The only people who this protects at the moment are the white middle class. Last i checked they were a majority demographic. Clearly its not working as intended.

Surely fair is one person, one vote? Everyone would be equal. Do away with the Electoral College and run it off popular vote.

I think I was unclear when I said minorities. I'm talking about just groups of people located across the country, not demographics, the founders were Federalists, they stressed state rights over everything.
150k is only 0.1% of the voting population.
Still a lot of people, even if it is a small percentage.

Just as how the majority of the country wanted Brexit, rite?

This time however the problem is the tyranny of the minority on the majority.
Why should my vote as a Californian be worth less than the vote of some random farmer whose whole subsistence is in the town in bumfuck Nebraska?

so people you mean? i mean the majority of voters are not minorities by default.

That's still more who didn't vote for him than who did vote for him.

because that would be UNFAIR because the majority of voters would UNFAIRLY drown out the minority of voters!
Fixed that but doesnt sound fair to me anymore
Electoral Votes are decided on smaller margins.

except what happens is most of the small states are totally locked in, so are ignored, only swing states matter
Regarding Hillary.

I think it's time to add Huffington Post to that list.

It's basically the leftist version of Breitbart.

Because that farmer in bumfuck no where is producing food.
Because a country of over 50 states shouldn't be decided by one.
Because he has a greater effect on his state than you
Huffington should have been banned long before this election tbh
Huffington should have been banned long before this election tbh
Why is it not included on that list?
Just look at their front page. Holy shit.
Electoral Votes are decided on smaller margins.
I was writing it up for friends last night
Wisconsin was called for Trump's win, by a margin of 75,000 votes out of ~3,000,000 total. 130k went libertarian and green, a small portion more wrote in a decent number of others.
Florida, the big decider, was by a margin of only 115k out of over 9 million votes, with over 300k voters going third party.
Michigan is finishing out with a margin of 60k votes out of over 4m, with 200k going to third parties.
Minnesota's gap right now is 33k, and the person in third place among the third party candidates there had 33k votes.
New Hampshire is barely wavering by less than 250 votes as of writing this. TWO HUNDRED FIFTY VOTES.
Pennsylvania teetered on the edge, along with several other states falling within 1-200k votes out of numbers from 2-6 million voters.
the line deciding win/lose was incredibly narrow and often overshadowed by third party votes in those states. People always say their votes don't matter and they vote third party to protest this because it makes some kind of statement, but this shows that every vote held the raw gravity to tip the scales on a lot of the states that could (and did) make or break the difference for the entire country
There is nothing to argue about
It is retarded to promote minority just so they dont get fucked but fuck the majority instead
It is a nobrainer
What is there to argue about
Have you ever lived in a smaller state or province? Do you know anything about the political processes involved in the founding of the United states and Canada? Do you know anyone from these lower class places personally?

I really think this is the case- my mother and I both agreed we wouldn't vote because we didn't like either of them. Yesterday she said she went to vote (she didn't as the line was too long) but mentioned if she did she would of went with Trump. She said she didn't like him or anything he stood for but Hillary was "worse".
I think we shouldn't have any banned sources. Banning sources is kinda really fucking stupid.

That's not how democracy works. In a democracy, everyone's votes are supposed to be completely equal no matter what. Trying to point out that some people's votes are more important than others is just bullshit elitism.

Facepunch doesn't have the right to freedom of speech or press.
And its intent is to keep out flame wars, trolling and incredibly incendiary topics that will result in mass bans - because that's what extremely, obviously biased sources in SH do.
Sensationalist Headlines name is a parody of banned sources, not an invitation.

We're not a democracy, we're a republic with democratic tendencies.
For the most part, there's not much difference. But with things like this, there is a clear line between the two.
This post isn't supporting his position, just making it clear that no, that's not how democracy works but we're not a democracy to work that way to begin with. Should that be changed? Probably, but today it isn't.
