tl;dr this is competitive tf2 update

Welp it's either here or finally coming. Here's hoping it can save TF2 from it's age.
lol
Q: HOW DO I GET ACCESS TO COMPETITIVE MODE?
A: To gain access to Competitive Mode, you must have a Premium TF2 Account and a qualifying telephone number on Steam. Examples of a telephone number that does not qualify would be a Voice Over IP number (e.g. Skype) or a number linked to a VAC-banned account. (For more information about qualifying phone numbers, please visit the Steam FAQ.)

Q: WHAT IF I CAN'T OR DON'T WANT TO PROVIDE A PHONE NUMBER?
A: If you are unable to associate a telephone number with your Steam account, you can purchase a lifetime Competitive Access Pass from the Mann Co. Store. When the Meet Your Match Update goes live, you will be able to buy the Pass at an introductory discount rate of $9.99.
link ya tele or pay the troll toll if you want to get in this games hole
it's way too late for this now

doesn't this prevent smurfs/alt accounts used by cheaters from accessing comp tho
it's way too late for this now
Most of the actual good comp players moved on to greener pastures like Overwatch.
Like seagull and pyyyyour.

As if 9.99 even hard to get. You could easy make an alt for "comp match making" thats not associated with your phone number and just buy the comp pass.

too bad overwatch's competitive mode kinda sucks right now
doesn't this prevent smurfs/alt accounts used by cheaters from accessing comp tho
This is going a bit far to prevent that kind of inconvenience though.
doesn't this prevent smurfs/alt accounts used by cheaters from accessing comp tho
people pay 10$ per copy of CSGO just to stack them up and use them on cheater alts, whats gonna stop someone paying 10$ for alt tf2 accts
especially for that competitive game addiction
not being a dumbass who throws money away pffft $10 fuck that
edit: I don't think TF2 is going to be taken as seriously as CS:GO in terms of competitive matchmaking

in the current state tf2 is in now, no.
if they optimize the complete fuck out of it then maybe. thats one of the reasons overwatch/dota is getting huge is simply because anyone can run it on any computer

Cheaters and hackers are the most likely ones to throw away money for alts.
This is going a bit far to prevent that kind of inconvenience though.
Smurfs in csgo are almost as bad as hackers.
So wait. Despite me buying TF2 years before i'm going to have to pay 10$ just to access a competitive mode?
What? That isn't fair.
What an underwhelming trailer
I'm gonna hazard and guess and say all that flexing and posing are gonna be taunt items.
I kinda hope we get some new weapons or revamps of older weapons that're borderline useless.
Looking at you, manmelter. It'd be just fine if they got rid of that glitch that makes it shoot slower.
So is this the big summer update? Or is there something more?
in the current state tf2 is in now, no.

You can still run TF2 on any computer pretty sure even after all these updates that have destroyed performance as long as you get that Chris' config thing. Yeah it's something you gotta download and install but it's really isn't hard to do so.
Unless optimization has actually gone that down the shitter that much
too bad overwatch's competitive mode kinda sucks right now
I assure you it's better than this shit. I played competitive TF2 via its matchmaking and it paired me against gold ranking players for absolutely no reason. It was a stomp.
At least Overwatch competitive isn't one-sided trash, which is funny, because quickplay is that way for me in that game.
too bad overwatch's competitive mode kinda sucks right now
Besides character balance issues, I don't really see the issue with it currently.
I've had a good amount of fair and intense matches, with it only devolving during sudden death where the other team embraces the meta as hard as they possibly can to secure a win, which is actually understandable. You want to win, whether you choose to cheese it or not.
At least Overwatch competitive isn't one-sided trash, which is funny, because quickplay is that way for me in that game.
At least there's no RNG coin toss that gives you like about a minute to cap, and every map really favours one side in my experience. So if you're on the side that the map doesn't favour then good luck.
and like the smart ones blizzard are they kept it in despite everyone hating it afaik
also not really matchmaking problem but the people in Overwatch and so fucking cancer to play with it really ruins the experience. I even imagine tf2 would be better

Pretty much every competitive community devolves into "cancer" at some point. TF2 definitely won't be immune from it, nor has it been in the past with organized unofficial competitive outings.
Competition tends to bring out the worst traits in people, it's just something you have to deal with. And if you're talking about playing with terrible teammates, that's also just part of the process. The only way to fully remedy that is to stop playing in random pubs and get some of your friends together to form a team.
And honestly, I've barely run into any "cancer" with the Overwatch community yet. There have been some instances, yes, but most people I play against are silent as fuck and only really just say "gg" at the end.
So wait. Despite me buying TF2 years before i'm going to have to pay 10$ just to access a competitive mode?

Well buying a game doesn't make you entitled to future content for free. Especially when we're talking nine years after release. It's dumb but it's not unfair.

youre lumping like 10 million people into the cancer department there bub, are you sure it's not just cause you're lumped with aussies and theyre bad
i'll play if this brings tf2 back to the pre medic update days. i doubt that though
i would have loved better matchmaking/competitive in tf2 years ago...when the game was actually still good, servers were still bearable and the playerbase wasnt full of retards
sold all of my items and hats sans medic shit to buy games, and moved onto overwatch. but now overwatch has garbage matchmaking so im not sure what to think anymore. even if i wanted to enjoy TF2 again, all of my friends who did play TF2 stopped playing years ago.

i wanna know what game youve been playing. quick play and comp have been nothing but either the enemy steamrolling me, or my team steamrolling them. its the rarest shit to have an even, actual "gg" worthy match
At least there's no RNG coin toss that gives you like about a minute to cap, and every map really favours one side in my experience. So if you're on the side that the map doesn't favour then good luck.

Nah Blizzard made it clear that they're not quite happy with the current system and that they're going to iterate on it until it's good. They mentioned they're considering ways to get rid of sudden death/coin flips altogether.
lol
Q: WHAT IS COMPETITIVE MODE?
A: Some of you TF2 lifers are as seasoned as vets get. You've stomped millions of pub players into the dirt. You've trick-stabbed, no-scoped and top-fragged through every map we've shipped (and the thousands we haven't). You've carried your team so many times you've got chronic back problems.
This is trying to be so self-aware it hurts. That quote about maps being kept in the vault is straight up bullshit either way if its a joke or not.

$10, the same price as 4 keys directly from the store, just to get into comp, a feature that Overwatch offers completely for free any time for anyone?
I feel that this is all just an elaborate plan just to get people into installing the two-factor authentication garbage.
