Pretty interesting documentary i stumbled upon. Have a look.
To be honest I'd probably be fucking terrified to film the Taliban so casually like that
Some of them were giving him death stares
It definitely is awesome though that he came through and managed to do this.
Those looks he got. I don't think I'd feel comfortable in a situation like that.
I always respected the Taliban fighters.
Maybe the higher-up leaders have in mind of taking over Afghanistan and imposing their rules. But the guys giving their lives think they're fighting to get rid of the western/eastern oppressors that took over their country.

Most Taliban fighters are convinced that Allah is protecting them from being killed, they do not know they are "giving" up their lives, and if they do they are convinced that there is an afterlife.
I do not think anyone should be respecting such ignorance.

Actually, they do know they are giving up their lives.
I'm not sure who I'm quoting here but some general said "when they stare into a barrel they see paradise not death".
What you call ignorance is culture and religion for them, foolish maybe.. but I can see why someone might respect that level of faith.

Most US soldiers believes they are fighting for freedom, and many of them get killed in the process.
Let's not forget about Christian soldiers who also believe god will protect them from harm.

Three reasons why people fight for the Taliban.
1. Money
2. Revenge
3. Brainwashed
I thought this was an incredibly interesting video, and I decided to see the youtube comments to see if any more insightful discussion was being had...
Worst mistake ever.

Your respecting people who throw acid in the faces of school girls and shoot 14 year old girls in the head for wanting education rights. There is nothing to respect there.
aww poor kids

There are some honourable comments, but on every single one of them there's this fucking jackass who thinks that all these people deserve to die because of 9/11, and that 9/11 is the reason USA is there in the first place.

Sounds like the same 3 reasons americans join the army to me.

r/atheism is calling.
They want you to come home.
I feel terrible for the Afghans, they've been through so much shit since the 80's.

Its not?

*tips fedora* m'lady
jesus christ just because you're an athiest doesn't mean you can't also respect others beliefs

I believe the concurrent objective is to actually instate a Democracy or something similar so they can weed out the Taliban,Al-Qaeda,Mujahideen, and any other extremist or tribal warlords. Mainly it's to legitimately free the people from under the boot of said warlords so they don't have to live in fear of getting their entire family killed because they want to support some basic liberties all should have.
Not related to the politics behind this per say, but what I do find sort of interesting is that these guys are sort of modern "warriors," as in literally fitting the definition of being a fighter social caste who fight for a tribe and for personal wealth and status.
Lot of hopped up jargon these days where paid/professional soldiers in the west get romanticized and referred to as "warriors," by supporters, media and politicians; but these Taliban guys actually are the real deal, for what it's worth.

Anyone that joins the U.S. military for money may as well fall into the brainwashed reason because they're too stupid to realize how little soldiers make as well.

I have no intent to defend Christianity, it has and continues to do harm, stop pointing fingers and let people be accountable for what they believe in.

"You can't also" makes it seem like you equate my non-belief to belief, it is not.
I don't disrespect religion because it's different from what I think, I do so because it's outright unproven, falsifiable, and is a breeding ground for ignorance and bigotry.
It is hard not to come off to attacking, but I've seen to many threads about ISIS/ISIL, but they always go in such a seemingly forced direction, that "These people are bad" and "We should kill them" instead of the proper course which is to figure out why they think what they do is "right" -- They don't know they are the "Bad" guys.. Being brought up in religion is what let this happen, no rational skeptic would go "Hay, I should strap this explosive vest on because I'll get virgins!"*.
*I know the story is terribly sourced and any educated Muslim does not believe it, but it is simply an example, and many can be taken from both ancient and modern history.
I think a big part of the anti-anti Islam on FP and in much of the world is caused by Christians whom DO believe that Christianity is better than Islam, the type of crap that Dailymail spouts, etc. I'm not attacking Islam because it's "worse" than Christianity, I am because it's under the spotlight right now, and I don't need to go far to find evidence for it's wrongdoings because of that. If articles starting being posted about the AIDS problems in Africa because of Christianity, I would hop on that.
Belief in something without evidence, faith, is irrational; anyone who does so is extremely vulnerable to manipulation, and great feats of mind gymnastics to justify their racism, sexism, or other dogma.
I'm hesitant to even reply with this, mainly because FP has such a bad track record with "not giving a shit" and just raining dumbs without any actual argument being refuted, and am mainly replying because I feel I owe it to at least elaborate my standpoint.
*Excuse spelling or grammar issues, It's late here and I'm on a laptop keyboard.
Can you elaborate the disagree you gave on my comment?
Just curious that's all.
What I was trying to say is; what ignorance is for some.. is the truth for others.
If they spend their entire lives raised in the sort of world where "bad" things are considered to be normal and they haven't experienced anything else.. can you really call it ignorance?
Seems almost arogant to say.
(My spelling correction seems to have dissapeared, I tried)
