I apologize if I came across as hypocritical, I wasn't trying to be arrogant, maybe like Aries said in the process of trying to make a point I cared more about being right then actually what I believed in. I've always been against superior Atheist types, seems like I was one myself :saddowns:
I have been a dick I'll try and apologize to my dad for acting that way, I hope he can will return the apology.

Did you just randomly throw line breaks into there?
I just skimmed through that and I think you should trim it down.
Ask him why the Rapture didn't occur when Camping said it would.
Sorry I'll try and make it more readable, I was just to confused at the time and too put off to write it correctly. I apologize.

Not something I would brag about.
My brain is confounded from what your dad said.
Seriously. Who cares, just respect your parents beliefs and they will yours. If you have religious parents, odds are you are just going to distance yourself from them when you argue.

He is an idiot in a lot of regards, his views on everything but religion I disagree with.
My dad was a Christian till he discovered masturbation.
Ask him how it's possible for a person to be made from rib.

The point is I wasn't arguing, you haven't read. I asked a couple questions. Also this conflict is unavoidable everytime I do something or say something now its like I'm some huge sinner destined for hell. I'm looked upon as a non-believer.
I'm all for getting along with my parents, I love them and respect them, but it seems their views are so distorted I can't escape from them following my normal life.
Don't feel bad, OP... You're not alone :glomp:
Sucks that your dad believes in such archaic and irrational superstitions...
meh you'll never change anybodies faith, because that's precisely what a faith is - belief requiring no proof.
as long as he's happy let him get on with it, religion will die eventually.
Evolution (he does believe in it, he doesn't believe we evolved from apes specifically though :downs:)
this is where I stopped
Faith has a way of making people say, do and believe incredibly dumb things, even if they're perfectly rational otherwise. There has even been research done suggesting faith actually cripples the part in your brain relating to analytical and question-based thinking. There's an article about it somewhere.
Rate me dumb some more, scientific research beats your personal views I'm afraid.
Just saying, but a good athiest/agnostic/whatever you are wouldn't question peoples beliefs. If they want to believe that a magical bearded man made earth and everything on it then let them. Especially when you're questioning your family, I mean... they're family! I poke fun at my friend sometimes for being religious, but I would never say anything to my mom for going to church.

Its not as simple as that:
"My brothers are just as indoctrinated and I feel so alone, I have no friends due to how I have been separated and isolated from society due to this stupid belief and now apparently my family thinks I'm a piece of shit that should rot in hell."
Also conversion to Islam worsens the situation, because of the view of Islam in society, if it was Christianity I could talk to someone here in England and they'd understand. When I say my father is a Muslims income the insults of me being a terrorist, I just get bullied and racially insulted, I learnt that from Secondary School.

That's my opinion, I honestly don't care what people believe religionwise if it makes them happy.
The only time I'd ever really say anything is if their spending so much time or money on it and not enjoying the life they have now, but instead yearning for the "afterlife".
Also you're a dick for not respecting his beliefs and letting him live his life

I seriously doubt that religion will ever die. No way you could disprove ALL of them, in addition to whatever else comes up.
As far as the rest of that goes, yeah, just let him believe what he wants.

And fair enough, your dad does seem extremely irrational. Just try and avoid it though. If he was really religious wouldn't he accept that you don't believe in god and be ok with it? My mom does, however, she isn't a bible toting super religious person.
I would have given up long before you did. Some people are just hopeless when it comes to accepting facts and unfortunately your father is one of them.
Sounds dumb, then again I'm sure my beliefs will sound plenty dumb to most people on FP, so I cant say much.
Either way there are not many faster ways to get your parents to despise you than confronting their beliefs, just short of sodomizing your sister.
I'm just completely depressed as shit right now, I had to sit there while my dad basically looked and told me my views are stupid. I mean he heartfelt and truly believed what I was saying was nonsense
And this is exactly how your father thought of you.
Don't be a dick about it. There's nothing wrong with being an atheist, just as there's nothing wrong with being Christian or theistic at all. Let people believe what they want to believe, because otherwise you're just a damn hypocrite.
And stop being so fucking superior just because you have no belief in God. I'm an atheist but ugh. Atheists like you are the reason people can be narrow minded about these things.
And again. You're a hypocrite. Let your dad and everyone else believe what they want. It sounds like you were arguing just to be right, not arguing because you truly believed in the point you wanted to get across.
Also you're a dick for not respecting his beliefs and letting him live his life
Are you not reading what I am saying. Its an issue of him not respecting me as an athiest, he views me as some imbecile, isolates me, treats me as a lesser person and believes as a non-believer I am some horrible being not worthy of being his son, destined for damnation.
Some how that makes me a dick.
I love how you say you love your father and respect his beliefs; yet here you are going behind his back criticizing what he believes.
I love hypocrisy.
religion will die eventually.
Typical atheist delusion and wishful thinking. Religion may decrease but I highly doubt it will ever die.
You mean this one?
I don't think so. The article I'm talking about didn't mention IQ. It stated that some area in the brain responsible for something along the lines of analytical thinking was less active in those describing themselves as believers/religious.

you reckon so? christianity is dying rapidly in the uk, i give all religions 250years tops, depending on how things pan out :)
