I had an interesting idea today. I need to learn a manual transmission. I also was watching some Top Gear and now want something lighter and driftier than my Crown Vic. What's the cheapest car anyone can think of? I was thinking maybe a Miata or RX-7. Note, this car would not be permanent, it would almost be disposable. I'd ride it hard every other weekend or so for about a month, then drive it to the scrapyard. My only problem is I just don't know any other cars to get besides the Miata or maybe S2000. Oh, and I'd prefer it to be a convertible. Anyone got any suggestions? If anyone knows any deals in the California area, I might be interested.

fuck yo rwd nigga.
Fiat X1/9
1st gen you miatas you can pick up as beaters for pretty cheap. I drive an E30 which i picked up for 3 grand, but it is a pretty clean one. You could probably find a $500 E30 somewhere in CA if you know the right people.

Every once in a while someone mentions this car. I'm almost convinced they don't exist except for the one pristine one I saw on craigslist a few months ago that was anything but cheap.
old corvette, 3000 lbs, V8, 50/50 balance, removable top, 230 hp/330 ft-lbs of torque for all your doriftu needs.

Del Sol's aren't even cheap unless they look like this.

can we have a 'rust' rating?

How is that cheap, they're pretty rare. At least here in Finland you never really see more than one for sale at a time, at a ridiculous price.

OP wants something he can thrash on and then dump on the side of the road. Doesn't really need to be light, just cheap.
Buy an old beat up VIC and trash it.

No, I definitely want it to be light. Besides, when was the last time you saw a manual Crown Vic?
It'll still be fun to trash.

never because they didnt make them.

Well I can't speak for where you live, but they're not that uncommon where I am
Well they were at least, I think they're starting to thin out (On account of them, as previously mentioned, pretty much liquefying after a few months, but if you're driving them to the scrapyard there's no car that would go sooner)
Seriously though, I know the expression is overused, but they really do drive like gokarts
240sx 240sx 240sx how has no one mentioned a 240sx

That is unnaceptable.

Occasionally I'd think the clean title is worth something to someone, most likely someone falsifying the title/vins for something else. It'd also be worth cutting up/parting out or using to fix/restore your Del Sol which needs a right rear QP and/or was wrecked/stolen. Not exactly $900 worth but I figure $250-300 for the motor/trans and maybe $400-500 in parts from the shell since it seems to be fairly cosmetic unless it was abused violently for a long period. Honda owners are horribly cheap and will just offer $300 on it though. I'd pay $600 if I needed most of a Del Sol interior and maybe a door or rear bumper, ect.(provided it looked as good or better than the picutres)
1st gen MR2
1st gen MR2
The 91-92s is the cheapest and have a slightly better suspension.
93+ have better trannies and sound system. The suspension is a bit more tamer but the 93+ are also heavier.
94-95 is quite rare, different tail lights and wing, best looking imo
Im planning to get a MR2 for my next car, expecting to get the 92s with a turbo. RWD, central engine and right driver side are the main reason.
or you could go with a pontiac fiero, looks good too, both are comparable but the toy is more reliable.

Define dirt cheap.
240sx in my place are so expensive cause of their drift car status adds drift tax
Something imported from the 80's. Just search cars on craigslist and you'll find something.
Rx7, MR2, POS Miatas, a beat 240, beat up supra, 80's BMW, foxbody mustang, volvo brick, Fiero.
MK 2 supra gogogogogo

Got no drift scene over here, but they say they make nice rallycross cars,
yeah the only drift scene around here is highschoolers doing handbrake turns in fwd econoboxes. S13s don't show up much either way, they're not popular cars around here.
the drift scene is huge where i live, everyone has a s2000 or a miata.

In Nova Scotia, Sunfires are widely regarded as sports cars.
Define dirt cheap.
i can find them around here for like 1 grand.
As long as you don't need a clean one...
