• Syrian rebels build cutting edge tank equipped with cutting edge electronics.
For months Syrian rebels have taken matters into their own hands, but now they’ve seriously stepped up their game: a home-made tank. We’re not just talking about a car with a some metal attached to it; this bad boy features a controller used specifically for moving the tank’s turret, as shown in a video captured by RT. The controller in question appears for just a few seconds, and a submission on Digg suggests it’s from a PlayStation. I’m not so sure; though there is an obvious resemblance, many companies use a similar design for their controllers. There doesn’t appear to be a PlayStation in sight but then again this controller clearly isn’t meant for simulated war, just the real thing. Either way, a rebel is seen using it to zoom in and out of the turret’s scope on a decently-sized monitor. He doesn’t shoot, but then again ammunition is probably scarce. From a distance it looks rather like a big rusty metal box but closer inspection reveals the latest achievement of Syrian rebels: a homemade armoured vehicle waiting to be deployed. Sham II, named after ancient Syria, is built from the chassis of a car and touted by rebels as “100 percent made in Syria”. The civil war in Syria began in March 2011 and is considered an extension of the Arab Spring that started around that time last year. Protesters are demanding the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, want to overthrow his government, and are looking to end nearly five decades of Ba’ath Party rule. In response, the Syrian government has deployed the Syrian Army, resulting in the death of thousands of civilians and soldiers. Many more have been injured, and tens of thousands of protesters have been imprisoned. Last week, the Internet was disconnected only to be reconnected two days later. The fighting did not cease; the conflict has now been going on for 21 months and still does not look like it will be resolved any time soon. Sensationalist
That tank looks something out of C&C General's GLA faction units :v: Looks badass.
Thats pretty cool [editline]10th December 2012[/editline]
It's going to be really disappointing for the rebels when it gets crumpled by a rocket.
I dont think they intend it to withstand a rocket
Looks like a giant metal shoe box with a gun bolted down on it
Looks like a giant metal shoe box with a gun bolted down on it
like most older tank designs ulitized by the first world?
That's fucking awesome especially with the TV/camera setup they have going on.
It's better than Toyota technicals, but even small arms fire is going to totally blow the shit out of the machine gun on top.
The comments are typical of a RT video. Why in the world do these people bring up America in these videos regardless of topic. On another note it's crazy how people can build these things in their home today but if you were to put one on a battlefield 100 years ago people would freak out.
Still looks manlier than a prius.
Looks like an abomination the space orks in warhammer 40k would create, except it needs more gunz.
Let's see if they can top Libya's makeshift equipment
It's going to be really disappointing for the rebels when it gets crumpled by a rocket.
Well given that most of the equipment Syrian army uses are Russian exports, not many vehicles in that country can withstand rockets either.
Looks more like a infantry fighting vehicle than a tank to be honest.
like most older tank designs ulitized by the first world?
At least this looks cute:
Flashy and sensationalist. Guerrilla is the way to go, not homemade tanks. Keyboard Commander out.
Reminds me of the guy that made his own tank in the US; In where they eventually had to blow him out.
Reminds me of the guy that made his own tank in the US; In where they eventually had to blow him out.
You mean that poor man who was royally fucked over by the cunts who wanted to turn his neighborhood into a industrial zone? The man who then constructed the legendary Killdozer that was made of pure HATRED?
Technically it's not a tank - it's an armoured car.
That thing was so fucking awesome.
Name was Marvin.

Jeeze the least the could have done is slant the armor.

They should have opted for a analog stick controller.
BRING ME CLOSER, I WANT TO HIT THEM WITH MY SWORD!!
That takes me nostalgically back to the Warhammer 40k megathread, more specificly, a wild plan for dealing with Matt Ward.
