WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favor of a draft United Nations resolution against his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Another day, another childish Trump tantrum.
Make it stop already.
I'd love it if Canada nullified his threat by stepping up to replace any cut funds, just like we did when Trump cut off support payments to world health programs that, among other things, provided contraceptives and other progressive reproductive health services to developing nations. :v:
He thinks threatening and bullying his allies is going to work in front of representatives of every country in the world. It seems to be the only thing Trump knows. Sorry, Mr 'President', but you aren't coming out on top of this one. I'm sure the many protesting nations will stand up to you and be counted.
Jesus Christ it never ends

He's used to being a CEO and throwing corporate weight around. He was handed this lifestyle by his rich successful father and he's wrapped in his narcissistic delusions -- he actually cannot relate to how a normal American lives, never mind other cultures. Expecting him to have any sense of actual diplomacy and tact is a lost cause because he's never, ever had to use it. He's gotten through life with money, grandstanding, ego, and intimidation. And a whole lot of cheating the system by declaring bankruptcies that don't pierce the corporate veil and taking his golden parachute.
That aid isnt his to decide, congress budgeted those funds

It wouldn't be the first time this year that King Donnie attempted to disregard the separation of powers and infringe on Congress' control of budget allocations.
I hope he's not being serious, the UN is such an important body, we'd all be fucked without it.

That is another part of the plan really, just offloading what the US was paying for to other countries and remove it from the next budget.

His view is that the UN is beginning to not work as intended, that it stands in the way of foreign policy, he'll cut back funding across the board to the UN throughout his remaining time in office.

Considering Trump's foreign policy consists of channelling Veruca Salt from Willie Wonka, the UN is not the problem.
And the UN funding is a drop in the bucket compared to the $1.5 trillion increase to the deficit Congressional Republicans, the "party of fiscal conservatism", just passed so they could give the rich a huge tax cut they don't even need, but we sure know where the President's priorities are.
His plan of offloading America's commitments and contributions to the UN on other countries perfectly fits his unstated but obvious goal of neutering America's global influence.
When even Bolivia speaks againts you, you just know the level of respect people had for you
The U.N makes a motion to denounce america for exercising its right as a sovereign nation:
"..."
The United States makes a "threatening" statement in return on how it thinks the U.N is full of it:
"Bully" "tantrum" "Knee-jerk" "Intimidation" "Uncalled for"
The polarization of our politics is just too entertaining. I can't wait for the next instalment of the American comedy.

Just because we're a world superpower doesn't mean we're above being denounced. We're stirring tensions in the middle-east for no real reason. I'd denounce that too and I'm rather patriotic.

You thinking that just because you are allowed to do something means you can't be criticised for it is the real comedy.
US to make at least $285m cut to UN budget after vote on Jerusalem
In a statement released over the holiday, the US Mission to the United Nations said next year’s budget would be slashed by over $285m and unspecified reductions would also be made to the UN’s management and support functions.
The announcement didn’t make clear the entire amount of the budget or specify what effect the cut would have on the US contribution.
“We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of,” US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said in a statement. Haley added that the “inefficiency and overspending” of the organization is well-known.
nope, but if he tried to unilaterally cut off UN funds then he'd be in front of the SCOTUS before noon.

Why not just move the UN Building to Toronto or Paris while you're at it, boys?

Says the ambassador from a country that just threw $1.5 trillion onto its >$20 trillion deficit so the rich could get a fat tax break they don't need. Never mind that the US military can't account for trillions of dollars. Inefficiency and overspending my ass, physician heal thyself.
Just admit you're throwing a tantrum because the UN was mean to your bestie Israel, America. We all know it, we can all see it, so stop lyin
I am honestly curious - could an American please explain - why does the US so strongly support Israel?
From what I can tell they've been implicated in something approaching genocide, expect help from the US and others and as far as i can see they do not appreciate it.
What is up? I get there's a lot of Jewish Americans but that does not mean you should blindly support a country simply because it is majoritively Jewish. Is there another reason for this support?

Evangelical Christians, which form a large part of the Republican voting base and a considerable minority of the Democrat side, believe that restoring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will fulfill Biblical prophecy and bring about the Rapture, where they'll be swept into Heaven and the rest of us will be left to the end times.
I'm dead fucking serious. US interference in the Middle East involving Israel has been partially motivated by voters who want to bring about the apocalypse, in their lifetimes if possible.
Support for Israel often polls higher among Evangelicals than American Jews.

Fuck me. I am glad I'm on this side of the pond...
Wasn't the us founded by evangelicals? I think the stereotypical pilgrims left for the colonies because of persecution because of their views in england/europe.

The Puritans left because England had freedom of religion, and they didn't believe in that. They left for the new world in order to freely persecute others who didn't follow their religion.
