Havn't seen this posted yet, this is a follow up to the 3 major gaming scandals that were buried video.
This is on par with #fiveguys for gaming shitstorm.
I heard MGS2 had a massive shitstorm too when i came out but that was for way different reasons.
I can't remember all the bugs. I had a lot of fun with a (multiple times) rented copy regardless. I do remember however the one moment (shortly before it's release) where my friends were mocking me a bit when I told them I won't buy it after being hyped months before.

There was a very similar series of events too, with developers/publishers colluding with journalists, opinions being censored, mass bans and wikipedia pages being deleted or changed because they criticise the people involved. I guess you could see at as a sign of what was to come.
Video games are a very big business and there's just about no limit to what people will do to make a quick buck.

Hideo Kojima was like the proto-prankster.
MGS2 was literally a social experiment for the gaming community at large. It's kind of amazing how well it sold in hindsight, even after the whole Raiden fiasco came to light. The game is just really that good.
I played the shit out of this game.

I remember some, my favourite being cars suddenly falling through the ground and then reappearing falling from the sky.
Am i the only one who got a bit annoyed at him straight up reusing all the footage from the top 5 video?

Get out of here, Babel Media.

reusing footage may seem a bit lazy but lets be fair, it'd be pointless to use new footage as it's essentially just an overview of the situation rather than lets say, a demonstration of the game itself.

for me it really made it feel like I had already watched the video before and it was wasting my time, i donno v:v:v
Watched the video again, missed the thing about Stuntman, holy crap I remember playing the demo for stuntman over and over when I first got a PS2, never knew it had a connection to the Driver games.
Seeing the footage of the rows of npcs inexplicably falling down from the sky and dying is sorta nostalgic.
i don't regret playing the game, i think it's better than GTA back in the day

Either the fact that you're playing as Raiden instead of Snake, or the cut content that reminded people of 9/11
wait watch dogs is essentially a re-branded spiritual sequel to driver?
dafuq?
Makes sense why it was a piece of shit on launch then
I used to mess around in the replay editor and survival mode. I definitely remember bugs in the game but it's what made the sandbox aspect of it so entertaining to me.
Story mode was kinda lame though.
In the driv3r the game revolves around the bugs. There are so many bugs it's ridiculous, but as far as I know not many gamebreaking ones in the story. If anything the bugs have made the game more enjoyable. But yes, driv3r was extremely hyped when it came out and it was a triple a title too. It costed 50 euros to buy and it doesn't surprise me people were pissed when they got it and it was mediocre at its best.

I'm pretty sure this is just intended as an "Extended Cut" of the that top 3 video, so I'm not too fussed about it. He could have changed the script for the bits that were already in the top 3 so it wasn't just a repeat, but it works fine.
That the Driver series eventually became Watch Dogs really surprised me.
Looks like it inherited the potential to cause controversies though, just in a different way this time around.
at least watchdogs is still playable, driv3r was actually broken
No jabs at Peter Molyneux this episode?
Larry's getting sloppy.

[sp]flashing face at the end[/sp]
snip, ninjad
speaking of Driv3r, going to replay it now
Man I loved Driv3r. If you play the story missions it's mostly not broken, but holy fuck once you go and do anything else. I'm just glad I played the xbox version, that at least didn't have the horrible graphical glitches that plagued the PS2 version.

Well, Driver: San Francisco had a lot of weird psychic shit and all that jazz in it. It's really not all that surprising when you look at where the franchise went after 3.

Today we acknowledge it as one of the GOAT but back then it was different.
Kojima lead everyone to believe you would be playing as Snake, everyone wanted to be Snake. So when the game came out, people were assblasted that they weren't Snake when the whole point of the game is to subvert players' expectations

I still can't fathom how people got to Arsenal and didn't realize what was going on. That conversation with the Colonel about society in a sea of information borders on horrifyingly relevant to this day.
