I doubt it has much to do with the protests, things aren't that bad yet and even so tanks wouldn't need to be deployed.
Most of those tanks were 2S1 "gvozdika"'s.
They are self-propelled artillery tanks. Seems like battery worth of them too. Saw their command apc's there too.
Most likely they are on their way to training camp somewhere elsewhere in Ukraine because they can't be so mad to shell the protesters.

Agreed, if these were for protesters, they wouldn't be firing shit and more for intimidation. That's artillery, they'd do more collateral damage than anything.
Nobody uses self-propelled artillery in protests. Its mostly MBTs.

it doesnt mean they will fire the tanks but to perform a blockade or something is quite possible.
