Men and women have been banned from shaking hands in a district of Somalia controlled by the Islamist group al-Shabab.
Under the ban imposed in the southern town of Jowhar, men and women who are not related are also barred from walking together or chatting in public.
It is the first time such social restrictions have been introduced.
The al-Shabab administration said those who disobeyed the new rules would be punished according to Sharia law.
The BBC's Mohamed Moalimuu in Mogadishu says the penalty would probably be a public flogging.
The militant group has already banned music in areas that it controls, which include most of central and southern Somalia.
Somalia has not had a stable government since 1991.
The UN-backed government only controls parts of Mogadishu and a few other areas.
Dumb....dunno what else to say. It's like they got bored or something and came up with a ridiculous ban to have fun with.
I can't take anything seriously from a group named "al Shabab"
If you can't chat in public, how can you get private?
also this is stupid

I'm against religion in general, but dear god, at least Christianity promotes good seminarian behavior to the people around you, where the Qu'ran demands that you spread your religion like a wildfire.

Both books have good stuff (that you could find elsewhere) and terrible stuff.
This is so dumb.

Getting my hands cut off and being burned alive for expressing my free speech isn't what I envision a fun holiday to be like.

And continuing to bash their way of life is not going to get anywhere either. Your voice is silent in a sea of billions.

The Qu'ran has an anti-contradiction rule that states the later written statements overrules the previous written statement. So while all the nice and cutesy things are written in the beginning of the Qu'ran, it's overshadowed by the hatespeech in later parts of the book.
I'm not making this shit up, google it. I see islamic people each and every day here in the Netherlands, and while I agree that some of them are okay people, their religion drives a fuckload of others crazy.

The whole laws on adultery I don't understand, it's a social problem not like breaking into someones car or something. And that it can be punished by death is appalling, relgion aside it's clearly an inhuman thing to do no matter what a relgious book tells you.

This should explain everything. Almost all the things I said were quotes from this video.
Other then that I know some things about the Qu'ran from Turkish friends.

The Bible also has an "anti-contradiction rule", when Jesus says that the laws of the Old Testament are still to be obeyed. You know... Killing homosexueals, atheists, followers of other religions etc.

What is so hard to understand about adultery? Sure, some of the Islamic sects (whatever you want to call their little derivatives) are a bit... big on the terms of how they punish for it. But it should still be regarded as a crime in some aspect. I see divorce, and cheating spouses ruin families... ruin their children... their spouse who they devoted their life, and love too. To be traded in for sex, and secondary interests.. that only favor themselves, not their families. Even when their spouse has been loving, and caring their entire relationship (Hard to believe, but yeah all couples do fight.. but compromise is the key in living a happy life).
And its not "inhuman" to do the matters of what a religious text has prescribed for your life. If it wasn't for religion, morals would have a harder time setting ground. As the bible and other religious texts set some great foundings to human society. If anything, its more human to take a portion of that prescription in the religious texts. Such as stealing, murdering, adultery, treating fellow human, forgiveness, and some other fantastic morals that we have developed society on.
Religion may be "obsolete", but its teachings sure aren't. Islams are very conservative in nature. And they live their lives based off this book, to develop a sense of how their society should be ran. If we came forward, and said they were living their lives wrong, we would be the bad guys. Since we are saying that we're the only ones living the right type of life. We become no better than them.
A compromise, an understanding of their belief and society should be developed. Not fear and anger. This will resolve nothing, and will not help us develop a healthy relationship. Only if all the factions saw it this way.
Until tomorrow when another group takes over said town.
