Howdy folks! As you all should know this week is pretty important in terms of voting! So in this thread, we'll be discussing the up-and-tidy ballot days(November 4th in North Dakota!), and what you plan on voting for and against! In order to figure out which ballots you'll be seeing in your district/state, goto Ballotpedia.org. If you are like me, and live in North Dakota: North Dakota 2014 Ballot Measures Remember guys, its extremely important that you vote! You should always realize that if you choose freewill and refuse to vote, you still have made a choice! If you guys can follow the quote format, and use URLs to direct other FP'ers to the measure on Ballotpedia, that would be greatly appreciated! I am voting - NO Reason: Women should be allowed to get abortions in the cases that they are sexually assaulted, are financially unable to pay for the child, require something to save their life, or just in general when they truly do not wish to give birth. Stop treading on their rights because you think that an unborn creature has the same rights as a fully developed human being. http://ballotpedia.org/North_Dakota_Property_Transfer_Tax_Ban_Amendment,_Measure_2_(2014)]Measure 2 - Prevents the state from imposing mortgage, sales or transfer taxes on the mortgage or transfer of real property. I am voting - NO Reason: We need taxes to upkeep our roads, pay for conservation efforts, pay for our schools which desperately need money! Not only would this harm all of us directly, but it would allow more oil companies to tear up the prarie for the shale deposits that have been spotted near our capital for free! http://ballotpedia.org/North_Dakota_Commission_of_Higher_Education_Amendment,_Measure_3_(2014)]Measure 3 - Abolishes elected State Board of Higher Education and replaces it with appointed Commission of Higher Education. I am voting - YES Reason: In order to ensure that our local schools are given the funding they need, that we have a proper fulltime education board, and have a government entity which we can directly blame for our failing education system, we need this Commission of Higher Education. Measure 4 - Requires measures that have significant fiscal impacts on the state to be voted on at a general election. I am voting - YES Reason: Direct Democracy, need I explain more? If it's coming out of my wallet, I want to at least have a voice in it. Measure 5 - Redirects some of the state's oil tax revenues to conservation efforts. I am voting - YES Reason: Contrary to what the title says, not only will this measure dedicate the taxes to conservation efforts, it is also dedicating some of the money gained to better funding for road maintenance, as well as giving better funding to our schools so that they can purchase new equipment and better books for our children. While at the same time hiring more school staff. Measure 6 - Creates a legal presumption that each parent is a fit parent and entitled to be awarded equal parental rights by a court I am voting - NO Reason: Not every parent is fit to be a parent, and I would rather have the most fit parent acting as the parent. In recent cases we have seen numerous reports of children being taken away by CPS because of stupid laws like this making it possible for an abusive parent to be given control of their child, of which they'll direct all of their anger regarding the divorce towards. We cannot make a broad law regarding this type of thing, all cases must be handled individually in court! Measure 7 - Removes requirement that majority ownership in a pharmacy be held by a registered pharmacist I am voting - NO Reason: Our current setup benefits our local economy be ensuring that the majority of pharmacies are not only run by pharmacist, but at the same time ensures that North Dakota's pharmacies are ran by North Dakotans. We have a major problem presently with stores like Walmart, Wallgreens, and CVS attempting to muscle into our local economy, and are underpaying and under managing their pharmacies, while at the same time charging ridiculous fees for prescriptions. If I were to goto my local family-owned pharmacy, I would be able to get prescriptions such as Amoxicillin filled for $12... At these major company stores, I am forced to pay $72 because the companies are trying to make a profit rather then aiding the consumer. Another problem to take into account is that the taxes in our state are based around our state bank, the Bank of North Dakota, and these big companies are trying to loophole around having to pay pharmaceutical taxes to the state, and are trying to pay less in federal. It's fucking bullshit, and all they have to do right now is allow the pharmacy managers of their stores hold 51% of the stocks/shares in the pharmacy, but no, they won't fucking allow that because they are a bunch of money grubbing scum. So screw-off Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS! My money is going to the local ma n' pa pharmacies that are ran by legal pharmacist, pay taxes to our state bank, and keeps our local economies in North Dakota, and not fucking Minnesota. http://ballotpedia.org/North_Dakota_School_Year_Begins_After_Labor_Day_Initiative,_Measure_8_(2014)]Measure 8 - Mandates that school classes begin after Labor Day I am voting - YES Reason: It might be the traditional side of me, but I do agree with the reasoning provided by most North Dakotans. We live in a very, very radically changing climate in terms of summers and winters. It goes from a lovely 95f day that lasts from five in the morning to eleven at night from late May to late August, to having fall and winter weather that contains 50mph wind gusts combined up with -30f to -50f blizzards. It is fucking brutal in winter here, and we would much rather have the children of North Dakota being able to enjoy summer to their fullest extent rather then being forced to goto school on August 6th.
Well that's for me folks! Hopefully everyone votes with their brain and heart. Make sure to think practically and usefully while voting folks!
The California ballot is fairly boring this year. I'm a whole lot more interested in how the senate and house races are going to turn out.
I'll be so fucking happy if Colorado goes to the Republican party. I heed the day when all those gun control bills are pulled.
Only thing we have in New Jersey is whether to put taxes toward the environment and to deny people bail in some cases before trial.
Being in Maine all I can think is "No more Paul Lapage"
I just hope Quinn is gone. Please stop with the constant tax hikes and money pits, places like Rockford are suffering
No statewide ballot measures are certified for the November 4, 2014 ballot in the state of Kentucky. The 2014 legislative session began on January 7, 2014 and concluded on April 16, 2014. The state does not allow initiatives or referendums, therefore, measures must be referred by the Kentucky Legislature. However, no legislatively-referred constitutional amendments made the ballot, so voters will not have any measures to vote on in 2014.
oh [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] I wonder if we'll finally be able to ditch mitch this year
I really want to vote this year but I still have my Washington license, so I can't vote in Nevada despite being registered here. Questions 2 and 3, which huge support from urban areas like Vegas and Reno, could destroy our mining economy up here in rural Nevada.
A “Yes” vote would remove provisions of the Nevada Constitution that impose a cap on the taxation of minerals and would remove other constitutional requirements and restrictions on the taxation of mines, mining claims, and minerals and the distribution of money collected from such taxation.
Mines here operate on very strict profit margins and the 5% cap makes it easy to budget for costs. If it were to go up even 1 or 2%, profits could be wiped out.
A “Yes” vote would impose a 2% margins tax on Nevada businesses with revenue in excess of $1 million with the tax proceeds being deposited in the State Distributive School Account in the State General Fund and used to fund K-12 public education.
And this bullshit. Education budgets have been slaughtered since I was in elementary school. Since these taxes are being put into the general fund, a vote could be held to reassess which makes it very unlikely that the tax money will be used for education. The company I work for has very slim net profits when compared to our margins and owner explained that a 2% margin tax is effectively a 15% hit to net profits which is insane. This is applicable for any business with high margins and a comparably small bottom line.
I'll be so fucking happy if Colorado goes to the Republican party. I heed the day when all those gun control bills are pulled.
I don't even give a shit about gun control bills, I'm sick and tired of Hickenlooper being in Bloomberg's pocket, and I identify with Gardner more on several aspects (aside from abortion, which I was deeply conflicted about) and Coffman is a super chill guy who's served our country on multiple occasions, and seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
I went to early voting because fuck waiting in lines when regular voting comes around. Our ballot was pretty standard, you either voted for crazy or crazy and the local community college trying to pass insane bonds for hundreds of millions of dollars while at the same time raising the costs for in-district students.
oh [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] I wonder if we'll finally be able to ditch mitch this year
And get Grimes? "Here, let me campaign for Obama and then not tell anybody who I voted for. I am so smart."
The only important ballot coming up in Florida is the gubernatorial race. My vote's going to Crist, Scott's a criminal who looks like a goblin.
Just found this out, if you go to google and search "sample ballot" you can type your zip code directly to google and it fetches (to the best of it's knowledge) your ballot. From that you can go right to your state's website and input your first and last name, zip code, and birthday, OR your drivers licence and birthday. Pretty useful, go look up some people listed and the ballot measures to see what they stand for.
I'll be so fucking happy if Colorado goes to the Republican party. I heed the day when all those gun control bills are pulled.
I voted Libertarian down the chart with the exception of the county Sheriff, since the Lib candidate seems like a douche and the Republican incumbent hasn't done anything I disapprove of. I tried, but I couldn't hold my nose enough to vote for Beauprez, so I voted for Matt Hess.
New York Gubernatorial Race is looking pretty grim this year. Both Cuomo and Astorino are absolutely candidates so third party is the only option really. Wish I could vote, but I don't turn 18 soon enough. Oh well, at least I can finally vote next election.
i looked up my congressional district because i looked at my absentee ballot and didn't know either of the people... turns out due to jerrymandering my district covers both where my home is and where i go to college.... except my college is over 300 miles away on the other side of my state and my town is purposefully cut out of this guys district :suicide:
All I really, really care about is getting Tom Corbett the hell out of the governor's seat
OR measure 91 we are gonna find out if there are as many potheads here as I think there are.
OR measure 91 we are gonna find out if there are as many potheads here as I think there are.
Please No.

Unless that differs with each state.
Is there a good Web site that give where candidates stand on the current issues in this election? It's hard to figure out who stands where with all of the biased sources and attack ads being thrown around.
IIRC, if you turn 18 within a certain number of days/weeks, you can still register to vote and vote despite not being of age. Unless that differs with each state.
For me it's late January so I doubt I'll be within the range.
Medical Marijuana in Florida, Amendment 2.
We are giving Mary Landrieu the boot this year. I can see it coming.....
Nixon's an idiot, but unfortunately we can't boot him out. Here's to hoping we elect people that aren't fucking their sisters in Missouri this time.
I just hope Quinn is gone. Please stop with the constant tax hikes and money pits, places like Rockford are suffering
Lol yeah Rauner is so great don't worry about the fact that he wants to gut public workers' pensions.
Is there a good Web site that give where candidates stand on the current issues in this election?
Question: Shall Section 6-A of Article X (Taxation and Finance) of the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to exempt from taxation the real property of the surviving spouse of any member of the armed forces of the United States who was killed in action, where the surviving spouse occupies the real property as his or her principal place of residence and has not remarried?
Convince me which way to vote. I don't have an opinion either way on the matter.
Convince me which way to vote. I don't have an opinion either way on the matter.
seems like a harmless way to help out with people who have lost a loved one in combat, means they don't have to pay property taxes while they stay there and don't remarry, im not pretending that i've read the bill, but i'm assuming its probably only good for so many years after the death since one could conceivably never pay property taxes again. does depend on your state's definition of "spouse" though, if they recognize same sex marriage or not
