ranger better be able to telefrag people
Cautious until I see some actual gameplay
First talks about keeping the spirit of the original, then continues to talk about things that have nothing to do with the original.
why on earth would they put wallhacks in a game like quake?
gameplay
ain't gon b a thing like the original
Why all the hate around it? Honestly from what i've gathered, this sounds like a load of fun.
omfg i dont want dumb gimmicky character abilities esp not in a fucking quake game
Why all the hate around it? Honestly from what i've gathered, this sounds like a load of fun.
Mostly because this new team has some massive boots to fill. Q3A is arguably the pinnacle of arena shooters and is still alive and kicking through the likes of Quake Live.

That goes against the old school shooter experience where everyone spawns with a basic weapon and then you've got to collect the weapons that appeal to you. It's a level playing field. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic until I see more, but this doesn't sound too much like Quake to me.
Why would you add abilities? This just seems like they went 'well we can't release the same game but updated, players have moved on from that style of games. We need to change it in some way.' and then picked the safest option and copied overwatches class ability system. I wouldn't even consider this a quake game.
Why all the hate around it? Honestly from what i've gathered, this sounds like a load of fun.
because quake is THE no bullshit arena shooter when I think quake, i think health kits, armour, and gun pick ups in an arena that sometimes has two people in it, and sometimes has more the people fighting are identical in all respects, their powers are to jump, crouch and move - everything else is derived from this, and the only differential is skill layering anything on top of this is a direction that quake didn't need to take the idea of a "class" or "champion" in quake is fucking gross

No one has seen gameplay yet so it's still too early to judge how it'll play out, but comparing it to overwatch is silly considering each hero has multiple abilities while quake hero's only have one. I am hoping they have a classic mode that removes he ability system
I'm calling it now, it's gonna be optional. Everybody's gonna lose their shit anyway because they added something optional to a game.

Mind you that wasn't actual gameplay, but still. Might mean weapons still spawn in the maps.

If you want Quake 3 just play that. If Quake Champions' changes are fun I have no problem with them.
I think I will just wait until actual gameplay comes out, then I will judge.
If you say you are going to deliver a pizza, but then you explain it in a way that it sounds like a kebab and you deliver a kebab, then there's more to be concerned about. False advertisement. let's wait out the gameplay
They confirmed that there were no loadouts, didn't they?
Giving one of your characters a wallhack ability when the game is based around picking up weapons on the field. Brilliant. I can already see the state of the game on release: 6v6, all Visor.
Yeeeah these abilities are pretty stupid. The only time I've seen game-sponsored wallhacks really work is Blacklight Retribution because it was available to everyone. But even having those abilities in the first place is kinda stupid in a Quake game of all things. If they're adding a no-bullshit "classic" mode, the question then is whether the gameplay holds up without the gimmicks and whether it's worth the investment over simply playing Q1/3/L
I bet it will most likely be slowed down and have a console release as a big deal
I bet it will most likely be slowed down and have a console release as a big deal
Spoiler alert: [sp]It's PC only[/sp]
Spoiler alert: [sp]It's PC only[/sp]
I take it back, probably gona be epic in that case. If characters only get 1 ability it's not a big deal
i'm convinced in their ability to make games marketed towards the old-school crowd. i feel like the ability stuff is just their way of also appealing to the modern shooter crowd [sp]and oversimplified because of consoles again[/sp] and if they were smart there'd be a more traditional gamemode for the veteran quake players. as long as they don't fucking outsource their multiplayer again i'm guessing it'll be fun in its own way regardless of if it's an actual quake game or not.
as long as they don't fucking outsource their multiplayer again i'm guessing it'll be fun in its own way regardless of if it's an actual quake game or not.
The entire game is the multiplayer so if they outsourced it they'd just be outsourcing the game
The entire game is the multiplayer so if they outsourced it they'd just be outsourcing the game
They actually are outsourcing it though, or at least a large portion of it.
