• ISIS threat justifies greater surveillance powers in UK, says Liam Fox
Britain's security services may need to be given greater powers of surveillance to monitor extremists from Isis when they return home to Britain from Iraq and Syria, the former defence secretary Liam Fox has said. A majority of people will accept that an "ideological battle" means that the authorities will need greater powers to intercept the communications of extremists, Fox said. The former defence secretary, who was speaking on the Andrew Marr Show on BBC1, said Britain should offer to put its airbases at the disposal of the US to avoid a "horrendous" situation in Iraq as Isis forces pose a threat to Baghdad. Fox said: "There are those who say if we don't get involved, if we hunker down then we will be fine. There will be no backlash. That is utterly, utterly wrong because the jihadists don't hate us because of what we do. They hate us because of who we are. We can't change that. It is our values and our history that they detest more than anything else." Fox said the authorities could deprive British citizens returning from Syria and Iraq of their passports. But he said the greatest effort should go towards increasing the power of the state to monitor the communications of extremists. He said: "We have the security services to ensure that they [extremists] are watched and that they don't pose a greater threat."
Britain's security services may need to be given greater powers of surveillance to monitor extremists from Isis when they return home to Britain from Iraq and Syria
Opposed to just cancelling passports/revoking citizenships?
Oh no, not again.
I imagine he'd be very happy if he could get a scroll of genocide and then use it to remove every terrorist in the world.
Opposed to just cancelling passports/revoking citizenships?
Oh no but that's ~racist~! Might hurt the cunt's feelings.
Oh fuck off New threat = new excuse for exposed surveillance powers
Oh fuck off New threat = new excuse for exposed surveillance powers
I honestly wonder what they'd do if a Tyranid hive fleet decides to invade our backwater planet. 'More surveillance pl0x while we figure out how to deal with the genestealer cult before the planet gets annihilated by xenos swarms. Thank you for your cooperation.'

He's a former defence secretary for a reason; he should quite simply go fuck himself.
Surely this is what warrants are for. Suspect someone is an extremist from their flight patterns? Talk to a fucking judge.
Surely it's not going to be more CCTV, I don't think there's anymore room in the UK for more cameras, they're already on every wall. Ever wondered how many powerplants are required to keep all of them running?

Advances in molecular nanotechnology will soon allow us to build multi-micron-sized cameras mounted on little aerostats, floating around, collecting video, audio, maybe even blood pressure and – when used collectively – even EEG data. We'll be able to spot when someone's about to blow himself up, or people who have microscopic traces of explosives on their hands.
