Ironically a spider is more or less immobilized when its front legs are raised, to kill funnel web spiders here you poke at them until they do that, then throw a towel over them and stomp the fuck out of it.

Yes they do. it's more a warning sign, like when an Indian Peafowl lifts its tail. When a spider plays dead it makes itself as small as possible - It's just basic instinct.

lol, Yeah. I don't see why everyone is so surprised. Tarantulas always do this. This is something you learn in elementary school when you read about insects.

I've had a lot of encounters with them here in Arizona and they'll either stand up or flick their hair at you because it'll irritate your skin.
