When Chance The Rapper's star-studded "Magnificent Coloring Day" music festival in Chicago sold out and scalpers began to set high resale prices for tickets, the 23-year-old artist decided to take matters into his own hands for the sake of his fans.
Chance took to Twitter this week to announce that he had taken floor-seat tickets back from scalpers and made the tickets available on his website for $45 or $75 — much cheaper sums than the exorbitant prices listed on resale sites.
Today, the tickets are once again sold out, but Chance has taken to Twitter to proudly reveal that he purchased nearly two thousand tickets to the festival from scalpers.

I really don't get why scalpers aren't prevented from having an actual business in the first place, it isn't complicated to link each ticket to a person's name and then require a photo ID at the ticket booth that matches. I guess most places just don't care as they've made their money regardless.

In that case you'd have to work out a system for buying gift tickets or you'd have to deal with the fact that if someone in a group can't go at the last minute you have a useless ticket instead of being able to just invite someone else.
what's stopping the scalpers from just rebuying the tickets?
This is the kind of shit that makes me love Chance the Rapper, he really is just such a genuine guy and I feel like he'd do this with his own money if he had to

Because ticket companies don't give a shit about them because it doesn't affect them.

Nah I dunno it's really useful to be able to sell your ticket to a mate or something if you change your mind not long before an event, or vice versa. I've bought loads of tickets doing that, sometimes for cheaper than i'd get them for direct from the event anyway, when sellers get early bird tickets and don't want to sell them for more than they got them.
I'd never sell them for more than I got them for though, fuck that, that's immoral.

I suppose he's selling them at the festival's entrance or something.

OP says he made them available on his website.
I don't see why he thinks that he has got one over on the ticket resellers... All he has done is save them a lot of time and effort; they still make their profit.

Festivals move slow enough as it is and any system would probably be ignored just to keep things going smoother. If anything should be made more thorough it should be bag check because it's easy as fuck to sneak in anything, including weapons.

It's not about sticking it to the resellers it's about giving the fans a chance to get in at a fair price

The whole point of scalping is to apply a huge markup.

Yeah, and?
I'm going to this show I'm pretty fuckin pumped. Got tickets when they went on sale

he never said on his twitter than he bought the tickets back though, it's possible that they managed to have them taken back and refunded or something
Nice to see people who don't care about making a profit so much as giving their fans a chance to appreciate them.

The NFL tried cracking down on it here and the state ended up passing some laws or something that legitmized it, so they just gave up

In the Netherlands we have venue's that have their own app and website where you can sell named tickets to other people, but only if they pay the standard amount of cash.
AKA:
-Person 1 puts his ticket up for sale on the website.
-Person 2 buys it for the standard price.
-Tickets 1 is canceled and a new ticket is made for person 2.
-Person 1 gets the money back.

That sounds like a pretty reasonable system, does it allow you to send tickets as gifts as well?
I abso-fucking-lutely hate scalpers.
His music's not my taste, but the dude has my respect
