• Ted Cruz.. Introduces Bill Stripping FCC Of its Power To Regulate The Internet
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, wants Congress to ban "the FCC's latest adventure in 'net neutrality,' " saying the proposed changes to Internet regulations would damage the industry. "A five-member panel at the FCC should not be dictating how Internet services will be provided to millions of Americans," Cruz said in a Wednesday afternoon statement. "I will be introducing legislation that would remove the claimed authority for the FCC to take such actions, specifically the Commission's nebulous Sec. 706 authority. More than $1 trillion has already been invested in broadband infrastructure, which has led to an explosion of new content, applications, and Internet accessibility. Congress, not an unelected commission, should take the lead on modernizing our telecommunications laws. The FCC should not endanger future investments by stifling growth in the online sector, which remains a much-needed bright spot in our struggling economy."
http://washingtonexaminer.com/ted-cruz-bill-would-ban-fccs-latest-adventure-in-net-neutrality/article/2548441
I don't trust the FCC, but I don't trust random politicians to handle NN either.
What? I thought this guy was supposed to be a fascist nut.
What? I thought this guy was supposed to be a fascist nut.
broken clock is right twice a day
I'm not sure how to feel about this. Sure it might get us out of Wheeler's reach, but can we trust Congress? I feel like we'd just be stalling for time until the lobbyists toss enough money Congress' way.

We also have to remember we have quite possible the worst congress in the past hundred or so years, it's not like they're always this bad.
broken clock is right twice a day
Unless it's a digital clock, then it is never right.
I don't trust the FCC, but I don't trust random politicians to handle NN either.
The FCC is controlled by people who are appointed by the president and are not elected by US citizens. It would be better (hopefully) for the FCC to be controlled by politicians who would have to answer to the people who elect them. If the FCC commissioners had to be in touch with what the US popluation wanted, then we would, ideally, have either an FCC that wasn't trying to kill net neutrality, or we'd have a bunch of FCC commissioners that were about to lose their job. As it is, the FCC can do whatever they want and there is nothing we can do other than complain loudly when they do something we don't like.
So what's the catch?
So what's the catch?
U.S. Congress
So basically the lobbyists have been controlling the FCC to make them no longer a threat to them, and now they made the FCC garner enough negative attention to promote stripping them of their power altogether. (or so the conspiracy theorist in me wants me to believe.) Isn't this what they wanted in the first place?
Well there's so much gridlock it'd be delayed indefinitely.
Unless it's a digital clock, then it is never right.
It'll still be right once a year.
It'll still be right once a year.
I don't think you got the joke.
U.S. Congress
So as long as the Republicans and Democrats are constantly trying to cockblock each other, we should be fine :v:?
this will also remove the FCC's ability to stop congress from doing bad things too. i mean do you really want congress FULL control of the internet?
this will also remove the FCC's ability to stop congress from doing bad things too. i mean do you really want congress FULL control of the internet?
Well congress has shown they don't know how to make any decisions, good or bad, so I'd say we're safe.
this will also remove the FCC's ability to stop congress from doing bad things too. i mean do you really want congress FULL control of the internet?
I'd say congress is a lot better that the FCC Pick your poison basically, except one of them does not kill.
I don't think you got the joke.
neither did I... what is it?
Ted Cruz 2016 [editline]15th May 2014[/editline]
neither did I... what is it?
Think broken light bulb
We wouldn't be in this situation if Congress had taken proper action to put net neutrality into law. We obviously cannot trust them to do anything. The FCC is headed by a cable lobbyist, but Congress is full of people on both sides that owe their jobs to funding from cable companies.
-snip read an older article wrong-
You guys are idiots. The FCC is fighting for net neutrality, passing this bill allows companies to violate that.
Keep up with news much? They just passed a bill (or similar) that allows isp's to throttle internet.
The wording of Cruz's statement seems to indicate he supports stripping Net Neutrality.
You guys are idiots. The FCC is practically fighting for net neutrality, passing this bill allows companies to violate that.
Oh ho ho, you're not snipping this on my watch little mister.
Shouldn't congress or the president dissolve the FCC and make a new one from scratch with people who know what they're doing?
Shouldn't congress or the president dissolve the FCC and make a new one from scratch with people who know what they're doing?
Tom wheeler was appointed by obamarama
Oh ho ho, you're not snipping this on my watch little mister.
Regardless of your desire to see posters humiliated, you can't say that removing the FCC is going to give us net neutrality. If there's no regulations saying that a corporation can't restrict bandwith at all then they will. Plain and simple. What we need is regulation to prevent that, not to remove the agency that oversees it.
Congress, not an unelected commission, should take the lead on modernizing our telecommunications laws. I think I'd prefer the lesser of two evils here.
This guy is a fucking nut, I'd vote for a rat before I would vote for him. He's just doing this to boost his image
