holy shit that first one. So many lucky oncoming cars
i want to know what the hell happened in the first one
i want to know what the hell happened in the first one
You can see the driver's reflection in the top right, head slumped over, probably pulled an overnighter and fell asleep at the wheel [editline]6th January 2018[/editline] https://au.news.yahoo.com/vic/a/37190230/lucky-escape-truck-driver-passes-out-slams-into-pole-at-heathmont/ Turns out he just passed out at the wheel, nothing actually got published about why it happened Only theory is he had a coughing fit and lost consciousness
Everytime I see these videos there's like 20 where the problem is caused by dumb intersections like this: You really can't expect people to be patient and wait for all oncoming traffic to have passed and these dashcam video's are the proof. Putting down another traffic light for turning and you would solve a lot of the problems...
That diagram is basically every single intersection in Melbourne and its a pretty simple thing to understand. Its not exactly rocket science to wait for a gap/light change, anyone who can fuck that up probably shouldn't have a license.
Is that white Evo at 7:07 the same guy has appeared previously in these videos? The one who bragged about points on his driver's license?
Is that white Evo at 7:07 the same guy has appeared previously in these videos? The one who bragged about points on his driver's license?
IIRC that was an R34 Skyline
holy shit that first one. So many lucky oncoming cars
I'm real fucking AMAZED at how long it took some people to fucking react to it.
I am amazed that some people just don't check their mirrors, a lot of these crashes could have been avoided by checking your mirror. How did they get a licence?
I'm real fucking AMAZED at how long it took some people to fucking react to it.
Considering it seemed like a smooth flowing thoroughfare, a lot of people must be driving pretty zoned out on that stretch which is why reaction times must've been pretty slow. [editline]6th January 2018[/editline]
I am amazed that some people just don't check their mirrors, a lot of these crashes could have been avoided by checking your mirror. How did they get a licence?
By meeting the bare minimum standards and 'acting' for the instructor than actually following the technique. I'm not even kidding, one of the things I was actually told is that instructors don't really know if you're looking at the mirrors until you actually move your head in an exaggerated fashion to really look at the mirrors. It's a bit too late now considering the impending arrival of self-driving cars, but I feel like so many deaths/injuries could've been avoided by making driving a hard-won privilege than a right.
I am amazed that some people just don't check their mirrors, a lot of these crashes could have been avoided by checking your mirror. How did they get a licence?
It's not just mirrors, just using your fucking eyes to see whats going on infront of you. So many of those crashes where a turning car hits someone continuing on a red light could be avoided if you didn't just smash the accelerator when the light turns green and actually paid attention to the direction your car is going [editline]7th January 2018[/editline]
I know it's simple to understand, but it's clear from the numerous video's that people can't be trusted with rules, they need to be told what to do. Therefor I suggest adding a couple more traffic lights to just force people into a direction without them encountering anything head-on: (Same amount of lanes at the intersection): I did my best to try and get as much traffic flow as possible, though 3 lanes would be perfect as then you can have left (always open for traffic flow), straight and right traffic lights.
I love intersections that allow you to turn without a light, having to wait on a red light while theres no incoming traffic like a dickhead is annoying as fuck.
Intersections that allow you to turn without a light, having to wait on a red light while theres no incoming traffic like a dickhead is annoying as fuck.
I do too - in theory, like roundabouts, it works great and reduces congestion. The problem I specifically have with unprotected turns vs. protected turns is that right-of-way be damned, the ability to clear a turn is squarely put on someone I do not trust to make that decision, as opposed to the signal. A lot of the time whenever I've seen near misses, it's become some twat just couldn't wait for a few seconds and took the turn, very nearly getting T-Boned because they seriously misjudged the speed of the oncoming car going straight (who was also going too fast to react in time to a car suddenly barging in his lane). Jerks like that are what fuck up the reliability of the system for everyone.
Is there a reason so many people in Aus have dashcams?
Is there a reason so many people in Aus have dashcams?
What makes you think there are more dashcam owners than say somewhere else?
What makes you think there are more dashcam owners than say somewhere else?
By the existence of a very popular youtube channel and australian store front called "dash cams australia." I don't really have any sources, but from an admission by dash cams australia itself, Australia and Russia have huge dash cam markets. [editline]10th January 2018[/editline] If I had to weigh in personal opinion, Australian's are fucking angry, man. Again, with no stats to back this up, I wouldn't be surprised if road rage and other similar incidents are more common in Australia.
There's definitely more dash cams in stralia than here in the Netherlands. I thought it was because insurance required it there but that seems to be false or I didn't look into it hard enough.
I'd say it's just because Australian drivers are on the whole pretty fucking bad. None of them know what things like right of way or indicators are, so you have to be extremely careful. I can't tell you how many times I've avoided crashes at roundabouts by staying put when the car coming around indicates they're going to turn off but they actually keep going around and would've T-boned me if I wasn't that goddamn paranoid.
Why is it that none of the intersections have lights going across the pavement? I'm not sure it'd deter accidents but there just seems to be a massive lack of information going into what seem to be pretty large intersections. Maybe I'm just used to driving on the right so it's just confusing as a whole, but I'd prefer this to this from the video [img_thumb]https://i.imgur.com/enkOWGo.jpg[/img_thumb] Like is that a greenlight in the back on the other side of the road? Why is that there??
Like is that a greenlight in the back on the other side of the road? Why is that there??
It's there because the road rules say there has to be two sets of traffic lights on both sides of the intersection

Beside those US traffic lights don't look that structurally sound.
Because we don't need a light for each lane, just for the whole road and those turning, the lane markings do the rest.
Apparently you do, based on how many clips I've seen in these compilations of retards fucking it up. For what it's worth, the lights on our intersections, where each lane has its own light? They're sequenced to operate just as yours do. You'll never see one straight lane get a red, two a green, and a turn lane yellow over here unless the controller for that light is FUBAR. Turn lanes are signalled as one, straight lanes as one, and the controller can green light either straight, turn, or both straight and turn as the sensors and its software tell it to. You can see it in that screenshot, the straight lanes are held while the left turn lanes are released. In your lights, the one on the right would be green, the one on the left red, to produce the same effect as what is seen in that picture. Having a light for each lane just makes it harder for someone to be confused('Is that light for me?').
Beside those US traffic lights don't look that structurally sound.
They're perfectly sound and rarely fall of their own accord. only time those poles come down is when some outside force...say, an out of control bus or SUV or some such...smashes them down. They shrug off hurricanes and tornadoes routinely. They may not look like it but they're perfectly sound.
