[t]http://i.imgur.com/yJ2bCiT.jpg[/t]
There have been crossover events for Fox's hit animated shows, but now, a new video game is--for the first time--bringing together the worlds of Family Guy, Futurama, King of the Hill, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad. That's all of the big Fox animated shows except The Simpsons (which has its own mobile game with EA called The Simpsons: Tapped Out). The game is called Throwdown: The Quest for Cards, and it will be published by GameStop subsidiary Kongregate for mobile devices. As its name suggests, The Quest for Cards is a collectible card game in the vein of Hearthstone and Gwent, among others. "We are thrilled to bring together these five animated comedies for the first time in Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards.” said Emily Greer, president and co-founder of Kongregate. “We are looking forward to integrating characters from these hit series in a unique and exciting way that fans of all the shows will really love." Kongregate is co-developing The Quest for Cards alongside San Francisco based Chinzilla Games, which previously made Little Alchemist.
Gamespot
Reminds me of how I felt about the Valve licensed Portal pinball game
On the one hand, it's gonna be a CCG so we can expect a lot of microtransactions as standard (buying booster packs for new cards and whatnot), but on the other hand I do hope that they don't make older cards obsolete too quickly, and have at least some concept of balance. Either way, I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty mad mashup. Whether it's actually any good or not, we will have to wait and see. Still, it's nice to see King of the Hill being involved in something again.
When can we get an anime based on this card game where Hiro McYaoichin must find the fabled Hank Hill card to defeat the evil villain?
I would watch this.
When can we get an anime based on this card game where Hiro McYaoichin must find the fabled Hank Hill card to defeat the evil villain?
"You just activated my 'Propane' card" Thought this game was a dumb idea on the face of it, but I think you just hit on possibly the greatest art form in all of creation.
I'm surprised the Simpsons aren't in it.
I'm surprised the Simpsons aren't in it.
Same here. Of all the franchises, you'd think the Simpsons would throw their hat into the ring. But hey, maybe they'll feature in an expansion later on? Though hopefully they'll have more cards from the earlier seasons, as opposed to a bunch of references from the current show. Also, speaking of card games, whatever happened to the Pokemon TCG?
Well this is a really cool idea. I hope it works out and the CCG is fun. I don't think there's been a CCG that mashed several characters from different sources yet. So, I guess it's cool. Of course, I might be wrong. Anyways, it's a nice way to generate cash these days with very little development time. So hopefully it works out for everyone in the end.
even though i don't really care for card games, i'm excited to see king of the hill return even if it's for a card game
I'll at least try it out when it hits the digital shelves. It's kinda hard to find good games on Android nowadays, since discoverability's a big problem.
I don't agree with the card format. I think it would have been cool if they made it into a street fighter type game instead. They did it before. [t]https://i.ytimg.com/vi/G1y-L7JX4PU/maxresdefault.jpg[/t] But card games rank in the $$$$$$ so can't say I really blame them for trying. Is there a reason why The Simpsons couldn't be added? They are making it sound like its because they already have a mobile game. Yet so does Family Guy.

That looks lazily done holy shit.
Yeah that is some low budget crap, but expecting something like poker night at the inventory was probably out of the question. If there's one thing to give telltale is that they have good writers that can make any character have depth.
Oh god, that stock music.
Oh god, that stock music.
it sounded (and looked) like a mid-2000's flash game
and the crowd goes mild
I was intrigued by the whole "combine basic cards to play a special card" thing, but the lame presentation and over-usage of microtransactions leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, would it kill to have some more appropriate sound-effects, or at least music from the shows? Plus, while I'm ok with the idea of researching new combos, I'm not too hot for the notion of flat-out upgrading your cards. Now I look at it, I dunno if I want to put this on my phone. A shame, too.
They probably didn't get the OK to use The Simpsons because they know this is going to be a wreck. And I have a feeling that it's more likely to get an Animation Domination expansion than a The Simpsons one. The plus side: Axe Cop. Downside: everything else related to AD.

Rather than Texas Hold-Em or Blackjack, it'd be kinda cool to play a game akin to Dominion or Warhammer Quest while Sterling Archer makes jabs at Doctor Venture's speed suit, before the Engineer rolls poorly and gets eaten by a Mimic. That's a game I would PLAY, as opposed to watch on YouTube because I have no interest in actually playing poker but enjoy the banter between Ash, Sam, Brock and Claptrap.
I was intrigued until I watched the video.
Everything I saw wrong with this game: No Simpsons for what seems like no reason. Didn't get any of the voice actors. Didn't even use sound clips from the shows. A huge lack of animations. The animations that are there are simple at best. Didn't make any new art. They just took screenshots of the shows. It's obvious they didn't have enough material to work with because they started using random objects to make more cards. Sound effects sound like they were bought off one of those sound effect websites. The music sounds so generic and boring. Would using any of the background music from the shows be to much of an effort? and finally. It's set up to be pay to win.
I think the reason The Simpsons don't appear is because they have their own game, Simpsons Tapped Out, which is the in the same category as this one, but instead it's a cash-grab base building sim instead of a cash-grab ccg.
Why futurama though? Bit of a salt in the wound type dealie considering how they handled it.

It will be pay to win as hell.
$5 Quagmire is going to be the new Dr. Boom.
Gameplay
Fairly obvious to everyone how much of a cashgrab this is. No unique voicelines, reusing tv show frames for every card, makes me sad shows like futurama and KOTH got on board with it. obviously don't blame them for trying to do stuff with the franchises, and i'd expect this from seth macfarlane shows, but not the others.
The Quest for Cards is due out in Q3 for iOS and Android devices, with a release for "other platforms" to follow later. No gameplay footage or further details about how it plays have been announced yet; we'll bring you more information as it's announced.
Interesting since the game is actually out in some territories. You can find the .apk for it online. I played for a bit and this game is nothing too special. However, it's interesting and fun collecting the cards and seeing what the different combos do (Hank + alcohol = drunk Hank with some pretty sweet stats.) When it officially comes out for United States I'll probably download it again.
